Is my hygrometer broken?

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a humidor. When I test my humidor (wrap it in a damp towel) it goes to 100 percent. I tried setting my humidor around the house and it reads 80%. Is that high? When I put it in my humidor, it's reading 90%. Any info would be GREATLY appreciated. Again I am a newb!

It's not a good idea to wrap your hygrometer in a damp towel - not an effective way to test. The best way to calibrate any hygrometer is with the SALT TEST. Follow the directions here: http://www.cigarpass.com/guide_hygro_salt_test.shtml

Assuming you follow that guide, you should be able to calibrate your hygrometer.

You can also purchase a digital hygrometer as well, they are more accurate than the analogs.
