So, the new house is up and mostly running, almost all the unpacking is done (lie, but it sounds good) and I'm back to work after some post-desert R&R. I have about a 20 minute light traffic, 30 minute rush hour drive home each night, which seems just short enough not to enjoy most of my current favorites wihtout wasting an inch or three on the back end if I want to have a stogie on the drive.

Until recently I avoided most smaller ring, shorter sticks because when I was newer than I am I had alot of problems with the smaller ring sticks always seeming to get too hot for me. I'm fairly certain it was my fault for rushing and being a heavy-draw type of guy. But I've learned to slow down and relax a bit and have anjoyed a few smaller smokes in the last few months. However, my humi is rather full of larger sticks (I still love). I've already picked up some staples in smaller sizes (read Chiselitto) but am asking for suggestions on what else y'all might think I should track down and give a try. I'm looking for good, daily type smokes that won't break the bank. I think I have a Short Story hiding somewhere and maybe even a WOAM. but I just thought I'd throw this out there since I'm sure other B/SOTLs could use the info too...
 
PAM Principe, Serie 1926 #35 (knowing how you like strong smokes). To go cheaper I like the tatuaje petites (maybe the small havana VI, just got given one and haven't tried it yet) or a boli PC. Those chiselittos are awesome too, I need to grab a box
 
I've got almost 30 minutes exactly from home door to office door. I've been enjoying the Rocky Patel Sungrown Petite Corona lately. Or the Oliva Serie G Special G. Both are good size for the drive.
 
I like an RD Gomez Fast-Break maduro for those times. It's a 3 3/4 x 48 little pepperpot that stands up well to a heavier draw. Of course, Fuente's Short Story is a great smoke as well!
 
x2 on the LFD Chiselito. Both the maduro and the natual are great and I can finish one in about 25-30 minutes if I put my mind to it. The price is decent as well.
 
Everyday comute smokes... can't beat the Connie #9's bro. Or try the Sweethearts #500.
 
What about something small in tins? I was looking for some short smokes, too, and found a nice deal on tins over at Famous.

$46 and you get:

You get a nice mix of smokes, and there's no wasting on nights when you have no traffic. They don't take up much space in the humidor. You can take them out of the tins, and spread them around in the empty spots that nothing else will fit in. Then, when you go out, mix up a tin, and you're all set for anything.
 
Many of the manufacturers are now making their blends in smaller sizes in tins. Some that come to mind that I have tried are:

RP Vintage
RP Sungrown
CAO Brazilia
Padrone
Don Lino Africa
Cohiba (Dom)
Zino Platinum :thumbs:
Gurkha

And even Davidoff makes some very nice smaller vitolas . . . they have a slim panatella size (only 4 in long) that is very tasty.

If you are looking for a regular ring size I would suggest the Punch Rothchild size. Maybe longer than 30 minutes but you can find them very cheap if you look hard enough.

What year are your Fast-Breaks? Double D and I ordered a box of the maduros and to be frank they suck dead donkey. They arrived soaking wet and even after a month in a dry box still taste horrible.

These are the recent production ones with the new band, not the band with the pheasant on it.

And I have to give my nod to Wade, the RP SG PCs are awesome little cigars.

I ordered a box a few months ago and split it with 3 other guys. Everybody loved 'em. Smoked great right out of the box.

Well damn :( Looks like Dale and I just got unlucky, I know the fast breaks are good cigars, this box however, hasn't given me a good one yet.

*edit* to include the one I just went outside to smoke about an hour ago. bland and bitter.
 
I enjoy padron fumas for my morning smoke. They are big, but cheap enough that you won't feel bad about ditching half of one.

On the way to work this morning, (smoking a Maria Mancini DeGualle Maduro) I was thinking the same thing. Not that you'd want to torch a churchill or something, but if it's a cheap smoke, heck, even a moderately priced smoke, if it does it's job, which I'd see as providing enjoyment on your drive to/from, what's the harm in pitching a couple inches of a smoke? Now I'm not going to light up a Shark or Opus or something and pitch 1/3 of the stick, but a daily smoke or bargain smoke, heck yeah. I pitched about 1 3/4" of that DeGualle and never thought twice, I enjoyed it all 30 minutes of my drive.
 
Throwing away good cigars, before they are finished, makes me sad... regardless of the price.
 
I recently tried a CAO Brazilla Piranha, and thought it was damn tasty. They pack a lot of flavor into the PC size. Of course it still took me 55 minutes to smoke it....

The Tatuaje Havana VI Angeles is another PC that doesn't disappoint in strength and body.

I have never found a cigarello(?) in a tin that I've liked. They all just end up making me want to smoke a "real" cigar.

You might try the El Rey Del Mundo Cafe Au Lait or Cafe Noir. they are a little milder, but at 4x38 (I think) even I can smoke one in 20 minutes (I smoke slow.)

As for pitching a 1/2 smoked stick, I find that it is usually at about the 1/2 point that I really get into a cigar so that I kinda like throwing the baby out with the bathwater to me.
 
Partagas shorts. Yeah you may have to circle the park once or twice on the way home to finish it , but still good.

I still like punch rare corojo pitas, good drive smoke.
