Hi all - not sure if anyone here can help but I am looking for some Home & landscape design software as a present for my wife's upcoming birthday.

I've spent quite a bit of time at amazon.com reading thru the reviews of the stuff they carry and I am now totally confused as to what to get.

My wife isnt too computer saavy but is really into gardening (design, planting etc) and to a certain extent, home design. She constructs her own curtaim/window dressing related stuff, and is looking for software that would help her to see it before she builds it.

I'd love to find something that fills both need but if I had my druthers I'd go with the landscaping piece. If the software is too complicated to work with - I will end up working with her (not always fun).

your best bet is to go to office depot or comp usa and just look through them and use your best judgement based on what kind of power your looking for versus your budget. the software at that level will be in the $100-200 range and will all be relativly the same. it doesnt start advancing until you start spending thousands of dollars, and then the learning curve takes a severe inline.

unfortunatly i dont have any hands on experience in the lower end or as i like to call it "soccermom software" to give you any real good advice.

I use Better Homes & Gardens "Home Designer Suite 6.0". It works pretty well; I'm sure I'm not getting all the functionality out of it. But it lets me set up a blue print of what I want to do, is pretty easy to modify, and helped me to get my idea across to my help when I printed out the visual.

Have fun!
