Ok, here is the issue. My Itunes library takes up about 25 gigs of HD space on my laptop. This is a problem. I have a 200 gig portable HD that all my MP3's are on. I want ONE source for my music.. and I would like it on the portable HD. How do I go about doing this. I really need the space on the Laptop, and do not want several different folders with the same music in them on the portable.

Preferences->Advanced->General -- you can set where your iTunes Library lives.

I had a similar issue a while back. I use a mac, and this is how I do it in mac.

1. click on 'iTunes' menu from toolbar
2. click on preferences
3. In the preferences window that pops up, click on 'Advanced'
4. Where it says "iTunes Music folder location", change the location to your external disk drive.

Hope this helps, good luck!

step 1. uninstall itunes
step 2. manage your files yourself, and don't let apple tell you how.
