Greetings everyone,

barney_rebel referred me to this board when I started asking him cigar questions. Here's the lowdown on me:

I only started trying cigars after travelling to Cuba and being told by my brother-in-law to bring back some Cohibas for him. I got Cohiba Siglo III and I really enjoyed them. Now I'm in the dilema of enjoying a VERY EXPENSIVE cigar back here in Toronto.

So my question is, short of forking over the large $$$ for Cohibas, what other cigars are comparable yet at a much more affordable price for me.

I'll continue to buy Cohibas for special occasions, but when I just want to try and settle back with a cigar, I'd like not to spend so much money as I'm not anywhere near a hardcore cigar smoker by any stretch!

Other things about me, I'm from Toronto (obviously), like hockey and music (Zeppelin and old rock)

Nice to meet all of you!

Welcome!

not sure what your taxes are on non-cubans

you could order online--not sure how customs works

you could have BOTLS here order for you and then ship to you (again not sure how customs works)

I nice so-called low end stick many like are the Padron regular line, and JR ultimates.

Feel free to PM me to work some sort of shipping arrangement out. if you're well versed with the laws/probablilities I would be happy to ship to you as you dictate..

Welcome!! Try some Partagas D4s, Vegas robaina, or H.Upmann Mag 46s or even some of the Montecristos. They are all great and are cheaper than the Cohiba. Cohiba are over priced for what you get in my opinion. Good luck!!

Welcome Zeebra, I'm also new to this site. I don't have a lot of experience with Cubans but I would recomend Partagas SerieD no.4. They should be cheaper than Cohibas.

I have a question for you. I took a vacation to Toronto a month ago, and smoked a few Cubans but they were all way overpriced. I went to Thomas Hinds off of Younge street and Bloor or so, I think a street or two north of Bloor. The selection was great but the prices Astronomical. I will probably take another trip there in the fall. Know of any reasonably priced shops? Obviously you are new to this and may not know but if you find out let me know.

Welcome aboard!

Don't have much experience with the darkside, but plenty of folks here do so I'm sure you'll get your fill soon enough ;).

I 2nd that emotion.

Oh and nice choice in music

I think we need to separate the newbs, they're breeding!

Best advice to give you is try as many different kinds of smokes you can get your hands on. Decide yourself! Smokes don't have to be expensive to be good.

My thought is this, My first was also a Isom, smoked it, said yeah it's good.
Started smoking a variety of cigs, from near and far. Then I went back to the same isom and wow it was so much better. The point, How do you know it's a great
cigar if you never had any thing to compare to! Start small, then go big!

See the Newbie Trade Sampler, Alot of different smokes for a great price.

Welcome to CP, BOTL.

Thanks for the tips. I'm REALLY new but I'll be on the lookout for cigar prices in the next few days. I'll let you know what I find around downtown Toronto.

Dwfinately check out the newbie trade - it's probably the best way to get a variety of great stuff, and even aged sticks that you won't be able to find without trading/buying from a FOG.

I'm a pretty new guy too, and have only been smoking cigars for a couple years. One I've always loved is La Perla Habana Black Pearl. A lot of other new smokers have liked it also. They're reasonably priced and a great smoke. I have quite a few more, so look for a review on them sometime this week in the "watcha been smokin' lately" section. I would also suggest looking for some samples here or head over to cigarbid.com and look for some samplers or 5 packs there. But I'm also not sure how shipping to Canada would work.

Welcome to CP from PA. Finding a Cuban replacement is the goal of many here. Good luck on your quest.

WELCOME from sunny California!

Oh and a BIG "Ditto" on the Newbie Sampler mentioned a few times above. Good FOGs there and will send you a boatload of good smokes tailored to your tastes.
