The Pacific fleet must be paying up for war crimes or something. For the third time, a US submarine has collided with a Japanes merchant vessel. At least we didn't sink this one. There isn't yet word on what damage there is to vessels or crew.

Wow! There is another captain of a ship that is out of a job. Hope no one was injured.

In the Navy's defense, these are fishing trawlers. When they're just idling through the water and the seas are a little rough, they're all but invisible. All of the collisions I'm aware of, the surface craft has been positioned almost directly underneath. Visibility in the open ocean can be hundreds of feet sometimes, so when surfacing, its SOP for the officer of the deck to "spin around" on the attack scope starting well below the surface. Still, this sized hull would be difficult, at best to spot.

I'd guess that the OOD did spot the target prior to collision. Otherwise, we'd have another trawler on the bottom. It takes a little time and effort to change the momentum of 8000 tons of submarine. Yep, Tony, thats one skipper who will be a civilian soon.

Someone should install a giant horn on these submarines. Either that or start a contest tossing fishing trollers for distance.

Sub 1: Isn't that a fishing boat?

Sub 2: Affirmative.

Sub 1: I bet I can launch him 50 yards with an emergency blow.

Sub 2: No way!

Sub 1: Yep, I've seen it done before, its all about angles.
