I've currently got my ear to the ground for a better job opportunity, so I've my resume posted on a bunch of different job sites.
Although I list my cell phone number as my preferred method of contact, I get emails from recruiters on a regular basis. Lately, a bunch have been going directly to my junk mail folder. They typically talk about a high paying job that I don't qualify for - yet the message says I'm receiving it because of my online resume.
Something about them makes my crap detector go off. Of course, they've got a link for you to click to apply. When you click through, there's a standard contact information form to fill out, but no contact information for them. That makes my crap detector go off again. I mean, if they're a genuine recruiter, they're essentially in sales and couldn't possibly have their phone number and address in enough places. None here, though.
I took a close look at one today, because the job description interested me for a change, and one of the information fields was for your cell phone provider. What the hell difference does my cell phone provider make to someone hiring an application specialist unrelated to the telecom industry???
This whole thing, IMHO, appears to be a scam to acquire personal information....and it pisses me off, because I really want job opportunity emails - just not bogus ones.
Shouldn't this type of deception be against the law?
