Well.....that may be taking it a bit far but for the first time in 7 years an American has won the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog eating contest held at Coney Island. With the record of 53½ set last year by six time winner Kobayashi already shattered by Chestnut with 59½ in his the qualifying round it was bound to be a gastrometric war this year. While neck and neck through 50 Chestnut started to pull ahead in a late surge to finish with 66 to Kobayashi's 63.

To have an eating record increase by over 23% in a year is unheard of until now.

That's America, wasting food and gas for sports are high on our priority lists!

Shut up ya hippy!

Hoorah for taking down the front runner. I actually stumbled upon this while channel surfing. Kobayashi should have been DQ'd as he did throw up.

I watched a story about this on CNN, I guess there were no deaths in Iraq to cover, but anyway. They said that the Chestnut consumed approx 20,300 calories and 12,000 mg of salt in 12 minutes. For most of us, that is a weeks worth of food.

And I thought I was cool when I downed 2 large double pepperoni pizzas and a 12'er of Old Milwaukee.

When you put it in terms of calories and mg of salt you begin to realize the quantity of food that is to the human body. The grams of fat would be another interesting number.

I could be wrong, but I believe most of them go hurk it back up later.

I love Nathan hot dogs, but I would never ever think of eating more than three at one seating.

I guess we need our heros :whistling:

"According to Nathan's Famous, each hot dog sans bun carries 309 calories, 20.1 grams of fat and 35.4 milligrams of artery-hardening cholesterol. "

So, 1326.6 grams of fat.

Now, if the dude puked during the contest, how come he wasn't DQ'd? Inquiring minds want to know.

Gluttony at it's finest.

120 hot dogs could have fed a lot of homeless people.

they coulda entered the contest.

Gluttony as sport! Maybe the next one will be sloth, envy, or greed?

Don't forget Lust....

The huston 500, 500 men, 1 chick.

He didn't, i just believe after everything is all said and done, i don't think they try and digest all of that.

Just the thought of eating all that much makes me noxious. Now if you're talking beer. :whistling:

This whole thing is a complete disgrace. :(

Hot dogs are meant to be enjoyed and each bite should be chewed slowly and deliberately in an effort to savor the wonderfulness that is present within the natural casing. To wantonly stuff them down your throat sans bun in an effort to be on television is ridiculous.

Shame on these purveyors of gastro-irresponsibility!!!!

;)

I love watching this thing, because it is just amazing to watch these guys "eat". Every time I see a contest like this it makes me think of a Demetri Martin quote:

"I think an eating contest is really just the beginning of a shitting contest. Congrats, you're the winner. But in Round 2, everybody loses."
