Just another warning to check

So I go and check on my anejo's because a friend found mold on one of his and don’t you know it another one form the 08 batch with mold on it. So far I really believe it has to do with the cedar they are using than the sticks. The humi I had them in is never over 66% humidity and the mold is always found under the cedar and looks like it originates from the cedar and transfers to the stick.

I had to remove the cedar from 3 cigars, two because it looked like sap was being released from the cedar onto the stick and one due to mold

I have quarantined the moldy smoke and going to burn it to ashes today to make sure it makes it no where else. Kind of worried about smoking a cigar that I removed mold from but I’m not going to throw it away.
Hey it may even be penicillin type mold and make me healthier. haaaaaaa
 
All those cigars deserve a death by fire asap!

I believe a good while back (it very well might have been you) someone said the exact same thing about mold under the cedar. So I removed them from the stick. I honestly do not think its going to make the big of a difference if it does not have the cedar on it. At least, I cant taste any difference :laugh:


Thanks for the good reminder for everyone else. I always like to have clear view of my cigars. If you prefer to have the cedar, I highly recommend everyone to take up on advice and check each of your cigars out to make sure, always better safe than sorry. (BTW if you are to lazy to look under your cedar, you are more then welcome to send them to me to check them for you, Addy in the profile :laugh: )

I gave my friend one of my AF Chateau Fuentes with the cedar and the green bands. He said it had some mold on it. I checked the rest of them that I had, and sure enough all them (just the AF's) had mold under the cedar. So far those are the only ones that has happened to so far.

I did the same, removing all cedar from my Fuentes (Anejos, Opus, SGs). It sucks finding mold on a few of my beloved Anejos but gives me all the reason to smoke em. They're prettier in the ashtray anyway! :thumbs: And they tend to smoke better when they don't have the cedar on it...too tough to keep lit! :sign:

Do you guys think that the moist condition they're shipped in would have anything to do with it?

You figure they are rolled and stored at 70%+ humidity at the factory (humid climate), then boxed and shipped with a Boveda humi pack in there. Even when we take that pack right out, I wonder if they get over humidified for a spell and that cedar wrap absorbs too much water and gets moldy in that time frame.

Just a thought.

Could be that. I also assumed that where ever they housed the cedar slips might have been over humid in order to keep the slip moist enough not to split when they are wrapping it around the cigar. But then you add in your theory and it just compiles to the outcome.
 
If they don't have cedar they are probably really young and just got rushed out the door before they had a chance to properly prepare the cigars.

Now you got me worried. Looks like maybe they did rush making these. They're kinda round and pointy at the head and then square at the bottom, like someone didn't finish pressing them or something.

I checked all mine from 2008 again and thankfully there is still no mold.

I smoked a 50 Saturday and found mold underneath the cedar. :( I ditched the rest of the cedar from the others. There was no mold on any of the other Anejo's. :D
 
Smoked a 46 last night and it didn't have any mold under the cedar. Damn tasty smoke!
