Just bought a backup drive

I myself have an Ion 250gb backing up my porn.. :whistling: I mean work at work. LOL
You will love it. I can't live without one now. Thats a good drive you ordered.

Hey Rod,
Thats a nice price, but do you know how reliable it is? I've always heard that Western Digital is a reliable brand, but never heard of the brand you just bought.

I'm currently looking at updating my laptop computer with a portable 60Gig hard drive ($99) and purchased 2 memory cards (500MB) at $120 (which is a steal at New Egg, considering CompUSA quoted me a price double that!).

Good purchase though... nice price for 300 Gig... lord knows with all the bit torrenting video/audio work I do, I need it!

Darren :)

It better be good cause I just ordered one lol. I've been needing a back up drive forever and have been too lazy to research it. Thanks for doing the leg work for me Rod, it is apprecitated.

I have a 120gb, western Digital, to back up movies, I was thinking of selling it's only about 6mths old, anyone interested?

I use the same drive for backing up my DJ music, been using that one for 2 years, it's been a champ.

I LOVE Newegg! I always look there first before I go anywhere else.

More on topic, I just saw a line of external drives from LaCie that look like giant Lego bricks. I almost want to buy one just because of that.

I read a lot of reviews on the drive, and almost every one was a 5/5 rating. Very positive. Also, I believe the actual drive is a Maxtor. Cavalry is just the mfgr, but I believe their using an actual Maxtor hard drive.

Newegg is literly about 15 minutes from me. Too bad they don't have a retail outlet, just a huge warehouse.

When I went to Best Buy and bought mine that is exactly what the salesman told me. Most hard drives are made by Maxtor.... then other companies just put their exterior packaging on it and use their own name.

Just remember to shut it off when not needed, Windows isn't smart enough to enable sleep-mode for HDDs over firewire or USB so the drives turn constantly when powered up. This leads to the HDD failing at a early age.

Using a External drive as a back-up medium for a program like Veritas Backup Exec is bad just for that very reason.

Well then thats good enough for me to get one too! Lord knows I need one more hard drive, and 300 Gig is a good enough size for me!

Worked for Western Digital for 3 years, and love their drives.
How much are you looking to get for it?

PM me with details.

I've been thinking about a stand-alone drive for storing my big-ass image files and I've been eyeing this puppy.

One freakin' terabyte. That's what I'm talkin' about.

Oh...and I don't trust Western Digital drives anymore. Had two consecutive drives take a dump after only months of service. Maxtor hasn't let me down yet.

Quick review:

Just got the drive today. Nice size, very quiet, pretty fast transfer. The software it comes with is ok if you only plan on backing up files. If you want to run system image backups, not great software for that. Came formatted as FAT32. Had to reformat as NTFS. Instructions are poor.

I decided to use Norton LiveState for my backups, so this drive works out great. Better than spending twice the amount of money on a Maxtor.

Overall, not a bad drive. Wish the software was better.

I have 2 of those running here at my firm and love them, worth every penny and the back-up software that comes with them is pretty good.
