Last Saturday, I spent a huge pile of money letting people I barely knew shoot laser beams at MY EYES.

It's incredible. I can SEE. For the first time since second grade, without glasses. Because I'm in my early fifties, I will probably still need reading glasses for some tasks, but . . . damn. This is amazing.

When they shoot the lasers at you . . . it smells like burning hair. A little scary, but I'm glad I did this.

That's awesome. Glad it worked great for you. I've thought about it before, but apparently I'm not a good candidate for it.

Hey Boar, I'm glad it worked out for you! I'm sure you're gonna freak out your old students when they see you this school year!

Glad it worked out for you. I just couldn't get past the image of a Viking wearing Glasses. :D

Congrats. I had my eyes done for quite a while now. I could count on one hand the good decisions I have made in life, and that is one of them

I had mine done just over 5 years ago. It was the best thing ever, I was amazed at my eye sight without glasses.

I plan to see if I'm eligable when I get back from this deployment, I certainly dont want to spend the 3-4000$, but I know it will be well worth it if I'm eligable

Glad to hear it works for you.

I knew there was a limit on who can get RK, but Lazik? I feel sorry for the poor soul who can't get it done.

Good news. I am finally at 44 starting to notice my sight starting to diminish. I can no longer read an aspirin bottle in low light. a's are now o's on freeway signs. I have a new understanding for folks with glasses and contacts.

I woke up from an afternoon nap today and was just stunned by how every single thing in the room was in crystal clear, sharp focus. With the healing process still in full swing and all the eyedrops I have to use during that, acuity sort of comes and goes, but moments like that let me know exactly what I have to look forward to from this. Outstanding.

Didn't have any idea at all so many of y'all have had Lasik too. Pretty cool!

I've been thinking about it. I'm sure my insurance doesn't cover it, but it's one of those things in life that seem worth the money. I'm sick of glasses! I wear contacts too and they are a royal pain in the ass, and the vision isn't so good with them either.

You guys are motivating me to really look into this. Around $4,000 you say?

If I recall correctly, I remember paying about $1500 per eye but this was back in 2002. My nearsightedness was about -3.00 or something like that.

Mine was $1800 per eye, but I'm 52, had eyesight more in the -4.50 range iirc, plus astigmatism, plus presbyopia (bifocals). There are places---San Antonia has one, in fact---that will do both eyes for about $1000 total, but they don't mean eyes like MINE when they advertise that. A coworker had hers done there, with excellent results, but she was much younger and far less myopic.

Most places have some kind of financing option in place. My vision plan through work paid for 20%, and a low-interest elective surgery/dental charge plan I already had, CareCredit, picked up the rest.

I did LASIK back in 1999... my vision is still 20/20 12 years later. One of the best decisions I ever made.

I sell Ophthalmic frames to Optometrists for a living...

You guys stay away from this Lasik stuff! Its bad for business!! :p

Join the Army, it's FREE!!

Thank you taxpayers. :D

Except there's like a 1-2 year waiting list for all of the services on getting the procedure done unless you're needing it asap for a mission/deployment or whatever. And you have to be on active duty as well.
