The common 3 1/2" floppy came out in 1987, for us older guys we had 5 1/4" or 8" units :0

My son and I found a box of the old 5 1/4" I had for my Apple IIE while cleaning out the attic last week. He was very interested in how the floppy discs worked back in "my day"...I'm barely 28 :laugh: . Even I can remember a time when computers were so large they required their own room and telex machines ruled!

Worst part is I went from 8" to a thumbnail in only a few short years!

Yeah, floppy disks used to actually be "floppy"! I remember my old commodore that the parents bought. Amazing to think that my mp3 player has about 1000x more power than that old computer did!

Yeah, I remember punch cards...and punch tape, reel-to-reel mag tape, and even magnetic ring core memory.

Does anyone remember before the internet was huge going to bulletin board systems. It was like a message board, or a place to play text based games. Man I am/was such a nerd.

Spent hours on hours on the punch cards then carry the box full around the campus all day waiting for your turn to feed em through. The moment comes and Bingo. One page spits out... you made a mistake on line 1320. Arrrgh. Gonna have nightmares now. :laugh:
