Growing too fast.
After reading Gavin’s review on the LFD Chisel Natural, I decided to go ahead and put fire to the LG Chisel, LFD Chisel Natural, and LFD Chisel Maduro I’ve had sitting in the humi for some time. I actually smoked these over the weekend a couple of weeks ago, but just now getting around to typing up my review.
The LG Chisel is one mean looking cigar, which may just be in my head due to having heard Chisels have a lot of power. The wrapper on this thing feels thick, is a medium brown, has noticeable tooth, and not much by way of oiliness. It has a nice weight in the hand and is firm when squeezed from head to foot. I try doing a V cut using the scissors on my punch knife, and it works well enough. Testing the draw, it is slightly on the tight side; however I don’t want to try and open it up more quite yet, wait and see what the strength is all about once lit. I’m getting a strong raisin taste in the cold draw.
Once lit, I take several puffs and have a hard time getting smoke through, which eh…isn’t tasting so great to start. I squeeze the chisel tip with teeth to see if that helps the draw, which it does enough to get a decent amount of smoke through. Oh yeah, it’s got some strength as powerful, full-bodied smoke hits my palate. And, there’s not much by way of spice, just raw, heavy powerful smoke.
As I’m heading into the first half, the draw really opens up allowing a perfect amount of smoke to come through. There’s only one description that comes to my mind for this cigar, and that is it is to my palate identical to that of a very strong Opus X. Strength, body, flavors; everything about it reminds me just of that.
I can say that the cigar smoked consistently throughout and had only slight burn issues at times; however smoked just fine. I can also say that this was one powerful smoke even to my palate, and did make a bit of sweat pop out on my arms and forehead towards the final third. But, I didn’t get queasy at all; actually rather enjoyed the strength of it. I would certainly not recommend this to someone who isn’t used to smoking strong sticks, although it would be rather fun to watch.
