Lodging in New York?

Hey bros,

does anyone have any recc. for cheap lodging in/around NY?
have a short school break coming up and am seeing some nice airfare.
that, and want to go to the opening of Davidoff's new store downtown.

since I am in college, was thinking of the cheaper places, a/k/a hostels and less than $50 a night places.

If you want to stay in NJ it's a 5 min bus ride to NY.
There's a Super Motel 8 and a days inn.
