Luck with Boveda?

Wondering the same thing here. Just got a new humi and ordered Boveda packets and the directions say to put 'em in and leave closed for 10 days. I decided to go with the distilled water route (sponge, wiped down, etc.). Wasn't sure about the Boveda packets...
 
I've always wondered what a "seasoning pack" would do that a shot glass full of distilled water sitting in the humi wouldn't do, but to each his own, I guess.
 
Yep, the thread that was linked was mine. :) Honestly, the humidor never reached the humidity that it was supposed to due to the packs. I don't think i'd use them again. I think next go round I'm just going to use the dish/shot glass of distilled.
 
I bouth the packs but opted for the distilled water, sponge, beads. Humi at second day unopened and at 84% RH, 72 F. Is this normal? Should I take out the sponge now and let it sit for another day or two with just the beads?
 
I have not used the packs in the past, but generally just place a shot glass full of water in the humi for a couple of weeks, without wiping the inside down with a sponge. If you wiped the inside down with a sponge, that's more than likely the reason you are seeing 84% Pull the sponge out for a couple days, and see what it reads then. The RH should drop.

Thanks Bill! I'll put in a shot glass of distilled and then have a shot of whiskey for myself!! Sorry, but another question. If the RH stabilizes in the next couple of days, does it mean it's okay to start loading 'er up?
 
I dont know too much about using them in a humidor.... but I can tell you that if you can get the Fuente Boveda packs and keep em in a bag with your smokes... after about 2 to 3 months you will smoke some great cigars. These things work wonders for when you will be travelling for an extended period. I LOVE EM!!!!

He is right. Heartfelt industries sent me a calibration kit and it worked great. Buy some of Heartfelt industries beads they work Great and have great customer service.

You should be ok. I would give it a few days though four or five should do.... just to make sure. You don't want to pull the moisture out of your sticks. I am still a firm believer in patience and a shot glass! Again, a few days should do.

We used the seasoning packs while we were underway. We rock and roll a lot out to sea, so putting a glass of distilled water in there and hoping it doesn't spill is madness. The packs worked great, and I didn't even have to keep them in there for the 10 days. You just get the recommended amount for the size of your humi and toss em' in. Work like a charm.

Boveda packs work. The usual culprit of less than desireable results is the humidor itself (leaks), human error in their application (not following the directions), or both.
 
Yeah. Just check out their website and plug in the size of your humi. It will tell you right there how many packs they reccomend. From what I've seen, if it doesn't get to the advertised humidity levels, it's because the user isn't using enough of them.

Boveda is one of the best new products to come along in quite some time.


I have been using them in my desk top at home for the past what seems like two years. I have a 50 count Elie Bleu; I use 3 69% boveda bag.
Never a question on the freshness of the cigars. All I do is grab the cigars I want to smoke for the next week, drop them in a dry box. Check the bags
to see if they are squishy and shut the lid.

I get close to 4+ months of no hassle perfect humidity out of them.

The key is to use the correct number of bags. And the beauty is you can add more bags with no risk of over humidifing your cigars.

I use three bags in my humidor with zero issues.

No luck with the Boveda here. Bought the seasoning packet for a new humidor. Never got close to the 84% that it claimed. The highest I got to was about 66% before I added a cup o distilled water...
