Mac users

I was a huge mac dork in middle school. We started with a Performa 6400, screaming with a 200mhz 603e Motorola processor and like 48mb of RAM, 2gb HD, etc.

I'm on a 15in Macbook Pro right now, and I've gone through a G5 Tower, a TiBook and a Wallstreet (Powerbook G3). It's all been great.

Here.

Since about 1992. First was a Mac Classic II, then a Performa 475, then a Performa 6200, then an original iBook, then a 15" "Lamp-Shade" iMac, then a 20" iMac G5 + iBook, now a 17" Intel Core 2 Duo iMac + 17" MacBookPro. :)

I love my Macs. I also have an AppleTV, Airport Extreme and a few iPods and I'll be getting an iPhone at launch...

And yes, I own some Apple stock. lol

How do you like the 17" Intel Core 2 Duo iMac? I'm thinking about the 20"

It's great. I sold my 20" G5 to get an iMac with an Intel chip in it. 20" was just too big for what I use it for. Have you seen the 24" in person? That thing is freakin' HUGE.

I love my macbook after having a powerbook. I can still edit movies and use photoshop and illustrator with really no problems even with the stock 512mb of ram. In the next few weeks I'm upgrading to 2 gigs of ram in hopes of making things a little snappier.

I've been a MAC user for 3 years now. I have both an old powerbook and a newer macbook pro. Ever since I switched I've had no complaints, and I would probably never go back to the PC unless I'm forced to. My only issue with is that I've noticed that people with the first generation macbook pro's have problems putting the computer to sleep and waking it up.

I used to be a Mac computer tech back in the high school/college days (I worked on lots of PCs too). I was always a PC guy because thats where the gaming market was. The mainstream games at least.. Played Escape Velocity like a mofo back then though! When they went intel the choice was simple. Plopped down my money for a MacBook pro and never looked back.

The best part is I have Zero headaches now. No messing around with hardware, no problems with software configurations. It just works. I had a dieing screen on my MBP and I just walked into the Apple store and dropped it off. It was fixed in a day. Did I ever have an experience like that with Dell?? Hell no!

Been a PC user since the early 90's. Bought the 24" iMac a few months ago. Great computer, excellent graphics, but had to sell it after owning it for only 2 weeks! Unfortunately, it doesn't run the software I need it to run. I'm well aware of Parallels, however after spending 2 grand on a computer, it should automatically have a built in emulator to run windows programs. Boot camp is not an option for me. Until Apple decides to really compete with Microsoft and emulate windows programs, I'll have to stick with XP.

If all you need is basic computing, photoshop, etc, Apple is great. Expensive, but nice.

Mac user since 02'. (Currently using a MacBook Pro) I converted my office to Mac lappys. Also use a couple of win boxes for two specific apps. We experience fewer user support and hardware issues which means more productivity. (cigars)

(edit for spelling)

I understand your situation Rod. A lot of people have to run specific programs for work, that aren't compatible on mac. Why wasn't bootcamp a viable option? Because of having to restart? Thats my problem with it as well. On OSX 10.5 bootcamp is going to be built in, but isn't going to be an emulator. Its going to be how it is now, with having to restart into windows. I've been wanting to try parallels, but haven't had the time or money to really sit down and mess with it.

Capt - Yes, I don't want to have to restart just to run a windows based application. Big inconvenience. My current PC at home gets rebooted once a month, really don't like having to close all of my apps, server monitoring s/w, etc just to run a windows app.

While Apples look "pretty", I really don't care for the all in one design. It's cool for a family, or a non-technical person, but I much rather prefer having a tower where I can upgrade my hard drive easily, ram, video cards, processor, etc... Can't really do that with a Mac (iMac). The Power Mac tower is very expensive.

If Apple would simply get off their high horse and release OS X to the PC world, I would be the first person to go out and BUY the OS. I just don't like having to use their hardware, but I love their operating system. It by far blows away Windows Vista. I would be willing to pay a few hundred bucks for OS X.

Not bashing Apple at all, just not a big fan of their hardware, but again, love the OS. OSX is based off UNIX, so to say that it will only work seamlessly with apple hardware is not true. They could very easily make their OS fully compatible with the PC world, and really compete with Microsoft. Not sure why they want to hold themselves back like this...

I hate to bring this back from the dead, but.....

I am about to sell my house, and We are buying a new computer for the home. My Dell from 03 has served me well, but it is time to move on. I will either get the 24 inch Imac or the 24 Vaio all in one. I am sure I can teach my wife the ways of a mac and boot camp. She likes to play those damn Sims games!

I have a PC laptop for my MMORPG, and I guess I could even boot camp that as well. I would like to hear from Boot campers, what do you guys think about it?

Tim

I've used Apple products since the beginning of time. Overall, with the exception of a couple of nasty run ins with the "geniuses," I've been extremely happy with everything.

Switched to a MacBook Pro about 18 months ago and haven't looked back.

Bought an iMac for the family a few months ago. I am also on a pilot program for MacBookPro's at work.

I have Parallel's loaded on the MacBook, but haven't used it in months.

When I first went onto MAC I was going to install Parrallels or Boot Camp, mainly because I was nervous to just switch. I didn't install them and I had nothing to fear. MAC is so easy
compared to windows, you will switch over with no problem.

My son bought the 24 inch Imac. He also has a 17" MacBook Pro. He has his computers and Blackberry all synced up, never misses an email anywhere. The 24 inch is absolutely amazing.

As for the gaming or any window based program, I can't talk for Boot Camp. Personally, I still use a windows laptop to download Rugby, the site only have it available in windows format, dicks!

Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't put windows onto my MAC. The reason I switched from windows in the first place was to get away from all the crashes and the numerous viruses.

This is where I am at as well. The wife, well that is a different story, she wants to play Sim Cities: Societies. I am going to send her through the Apple store to look at stuff, if she can find something there then I will be good to go. Also I really would like to play my MMORPG on the 24'' screen. But if that is the only thing I need to run in windows, I guess I can suffer on the Dell Lappy.

There are ways around it without having to install windows on your MAC. You could use an external hard drive that you boot up from. With Boot Camp it requires a re-boot anyhow.

Ask at the Apple store but be sure to get someone that's clued up. A lot of kids work there and some have little knowledge. Ask who the President is, if they know the answer you may be on to someone good.

Been with Mac since last winter and have no complaints. Does everything I need it to do and have had no problems getting used to it. I purchased the "Missing Manual Leopard Edition" and read it every night before the computer even arrived. Brought me right up to speed and makes a perfect reference for any questions down the road.

I converted to Mac five years ago and about a year ago upgraded to a new iMac. I use a PC at work and routinely transfer files back and forth via email. I much prefer the reliability and ease of use of the Mac and can't imagine ever going back to strictly a PC existence.

I Love It!
