Maduro or Natural?

In general,for mild cigars I like natural and for more full bodied cigars I like maduro.

When I'm standing in the humidor looking for something to buy, I find my eyes drawn to the dark oily maduros. However, a quick peek inside my own humidor shows about a 2:1 ratio favoring sungrown and natural. It will be interesting to come back to this thought a few years from now, to see if my tastebuds finally overtake my eyes when looking for a stick to buy/smoke.

An impossible question to answer.

Since there is no such thing as a maduro Cuban cigar (well, Cohiba just recently released some EL but they're almost impossible to get), if I want a Cuban cigar then I'm smoking a natural leaf wrapped cigar.

As far as non-Cuban cigars, I choose a cigar based on whether I like it or not, not because of a wrapper leaf category. Oliva "O" Bolds and Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 are dark natural and they taste better than lots of maduros.

I rarely smoke lower end non-Cuban cigars in the first place.

Are sun grown wrappers considered naturals? I've had one Opus and loved it, are there any other cigars with rosado wrappers?

I would consider them naturals, but i'm newbie, so I could be wrong As for rosado wrapper, I'm sure there are many more, but Partagas Spanish Rosado and Fuente King B come to mind. Haven't tried the Partagas, but I really like the King B (just not as much as Opus)

I tend to agree with this assesment. At least that's how it is for me...

I used to smoke maduros nearly exclusively. I have since grown weary of the sweetness they exhibit and now lean more towards "natural" wrapper cigars.

A large part of my former maduro smoking preference was due to my earliest experiences with them. I had noticed that the stronger cigars, which I preferred, seemed to be mostly of maduro leaf wrapping. I then became a creature of habit and sought out the darkest cigars in the shops.

A search of folly on my part. "Natural" leaf wrappers do not yield "weaker" cigars. Their wrappers have just not undergone the extra fermentation process to become maduro leaves. The maduro fermentation process does add another element to the taste, but a part of that is a sweetness that I just can't get into anymore.

I don't understand the in and outs of hosting a web site, but Rod, the owner of this place, asked us not to bump old threads. He didn't say why, but I suspect it's a cost issue. So please, don't bump old threads. Rod is kind enough to give this place to us and the least we can do is respect his wishes.

However, I do know about the internet, and I know that bumping an old thread is absolutely no different than starting all these new ones that pop up all day long; as far as bandwidth is concerned. Pardon me; my apologies may be necessary here. I do not know if this part of your post I quoted was made in jest. I can only say that my overt noticing of your resurrecting old threads has been simple and good spirited jest on my part. If you are new to this cigar board, then it speaks well of you that you are perusing old threads. There is often times a wealth of information to be gleaned in old threads. Of course, any old thread you find that is of relevance to your needs or interests are worthy of further discussion. After all, that is a primary purpose of the majority of these cigar boards.

I assure you, I have not intended to be rude to you.

I gotta admit, I myself wasn't aware of the administrative preference against "topping" an old thread as opposed to initiating a new one of the same topic. My lesson learned for the day.
