At first I thought that this was some sort of joke. The same company that created the Ruination – a super heavy and tasty cigar that delivers its nicotine like a punch to your groin – has now created a velvety smooth light bodied cigar? Not one to shy away from trying something different, I happily grabbed a snifter of tequila (Cabo Wabo reposado if you’re interested) and set out to try it. The cigar itself was pretty but nothing really to write home about. It still has that god awful gaudy band that takes up a third of the smoke only now it’s made more hideous by coloring it silver. The wrapper was a blondish brown color with a few veins but otherwise unremarkable. Thankfully the rest of the cigar was much better than the initial look. The first couple of puff let loose with a mild bodied pepper flavor that had hints of earthy flavors. After those couple of puff though, the pepper flavors all but disappeared and were replaced by a earthy/leather flavor. Eventually a nice buttery smoothness developed that complimented the earth flavors. Like most of the Man O’ War cigars about half way through several new flavors emerged to delight your palette. I tasted a little bit of honey and hints of ester with a buttery vanilla finish. Unfortunately these flavors didn’t stick around for long and the cigar finished where it started. The mild pepper flavor jumped back in to show itself and the earthy leather flavors embraced it with wide open arms. Overall this was a pretty good mild smoke. Unusual for a Man O’ War cigar, the burn was pretty much spot on perfect. The burn line was razor straight throughout the entire cigar and the ash; well it didn’t want to fall off. I swear you could probably smoke half the cigar before it fell off. At about $10/piece, I think these are a bit over priced but if you can find them on sale (say around $6 - $8/stick) you’d be doing yourself a favor by buying these.
