You just can't beat playing a little hookey, sitting in the sun on a beautiful sunny mid-70 degree day, having a beer and a smoke when you are supposed to be doing a thousand other things....including being at work.

I spent the day with my teenage daughter getting some car maintenance done on her car (I ended up springing for a new set of tires) and we had some unexpected down time just after lunch. We just happened to be near one of my favorite cigar hangouts!

A short, funny story...

I noticed that they have recently installed security cameras and have placed signs around the store indicating that you are being video taped. I commented to one of the guys and he said they had recently put the new system in place. He said they actually got the signs in several weeks before the actual system was in place. They put them up and soon after a "regular" asked about them. They gave him the "new security system" story and didn't let on that the system was only signs at this point. He bought a few sticks and left. Within an hour or so, he shows back up with his cigar notebook and goes through it with one of the guys where he points out 14 cigars that he has stolen from the store in the last couple of months. He thinks he's busted because of the new security system, so he offers to pay for the stolen cigars. The store charges him and tells him not to come back. The store guy tells me the most embarrassing part is that the guy stole only 4 to 5 dollar sticks! He wasn't even stealing the good stuff!

Not only is the guy an idiot for being a thief but he is a bad thief. You never admit to it unless you are called out and they have the evidence right there in front of you to see. Thats like people that confess to stuff because someone thows a blank video tape in front of them before they actually watch the tape.

For a short time I worked at a friends shop that sold baseball cards and game cards (ie. Pokemon, etc). We had a bit of a theft problem since so much of the product was not behind the counter. He installed "security cameras" and placed signs around the store. Funny thin was that the "cameras" were fakes sold for about $10 a piece. The used a 9v battery, had a little red light that turned on and a fake cable that went into the wall. They worked and the problems soon were but a distant memory.

Poor old bastid, he just wants a good smoke and the social security check doesn't allow any extra funds.

I was in there for the Perdomo event and noticed the tinted bulb on the window. Just simply amazing and just for the record the guy jgohlke mentioned is not me. I dont steal and actually have the shop owner looking for me the Africa Ashtray. Well he said he would look but who knows :)
