I am a weekend smoker, but just had to celebrate last night. My MRN book arrived. Wow! What a beauty! As I leafed through the pages, I knew I needed a really nice smoke, something to drink and some quality patio time. RASCC (from my first newbie trade with CC) was my choice for a smoke. Glen Moray, a 12-year old, single malt scotch was my choice of drink. I had to change out of my work clothes into shorts, it's so warm here! (too bad for you Northerners! )

I spent over an hour nursing both cigar and drink, reading through the book. It's really something. Disney? Who needs that? I want to go Hong Kong and spend some time at M. R. Nee's house! Now that would be worth an "E" ticket for sure!

One thing is for sure, I'm not aging my cigars long enough.

Everything was perfect. Cigar was excellent. Scotch was smooth and mellow. Weather was cool, just perfect for shorts without being chilly. Did I mention how nice it is here?

The book is really something. I read the first 50 or so pages, learned all about the history and aging of cigars. I skipped around a bit after that. I read about the "embargo" and of course, about the Ramones Allones Small Club Corona..."an insider's cigar". I lauged when I read that he had actually seen someone smoking a Fonseca with the rice paper still on it....like it was a huge cigarette or something.

I read that he self-published the book. Amazing. What an accomplishment.

Cheers to Mr. Nee, helluvajob!

Joe

Man the weather has been nice the last couple of days down here in the south. I am sitting here doin the pee pee dance waiting on my copy or MRN's book. :D

I wrote down the name and author of that book a while back and lost it. Do you think you could PM me or post it.

Thanks

Also does anyone know of a good place to find a copy? I went to a local Barnes & Noble one time looking for it and they didn't have a single book on the topic cigars  .

"An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Post-Revolution Havana Cigars" by Min Ron Nee

Here's the group-buy post, from another cigar forum, that just completed: post link

Ya ain't gonna find it in a bookstore so if you want a copy, ya gotta get it from one of those group buys.

whoa whoa whoa, joe!
it feels wrong not to be listening to you describe that stuff...

c'mon now and get that recorder out! :p

It's nice to have that book in front of you when you're smoking a good cigar. I like to read about the individual cigars history, and what changes, if ever, were made. I also like the short history that he includes about each company. Of all of them, I'd have to say the story of the Partagas brand was the most interesting.

definitely. really informative, and the photos are incredible.

it's the whole aging section, though. man! I'm still spun, trying to grasp the science of it all.
dwelling on the aging aspect too much seems like can turn even the most apathetic slacker into a full-fledged victim of OCD!

I disagree! The first two cigar books I ever got were from Barnes and Noble. Complete Idiot's guide, not a bad read, and of course CA,you can count that lol.
