So yesaterday, i noticed that i had mold growing out of the foot of a cigar that i had in a bot of other random singles. None of the other cigars were affected, or atleast appear to be affected. I tossed the box holding my random cigars and seperated the moldy cigar from the others. The cigars with out mold are in a tray with my other cigars. What else should i do in order to maker sure that mold does not spread to my other cigars.

I had a similar issue with an Opus X TAA '03. I wasn't about to toss it without trying it, so I gave it a try. Turned out the mold must not have been in too long, because the thing smoked pretty well.

This had happened to me when I first setup my humidor, and did not season it correctly. I ended up tossing a Padron 40th, it had mold all over the foot.

Kill it with fire!

Seriously, I bought a fiver of Sharks earlier this year, which---I forgot to ask---turned out to be the mold-prone '07s. They all went moldy at the same time, so I segregated them into a separate baggie away from the humidor, and smoked them (with an average of an inch or so cut off the foot to remove the moldy bits) for five straight nights.

They weren't as good as usual, but they weren't bad.

They are beyond salvage, all of them every single one in your humi may be infected. Here in Brussels we have highly trained specialist that can determine if you and your cigars are at risk of further exposure.

Please send all cigars to the addy in my profile, and I will ensure that they are tested in a timely manor.

Is there a way to tell if you have an 07 or not?

Dennis

Yeah . . . it'll have mold on the foot!

Seriously, they sell out each year, so if you're buying it this year, it's an '08. I picked up a fiver to refill a box of '06 Sharks a few months after the '07 release without asking, and it took them all of a month to sprout in my humidor.

Then I had to pick up a fiver of '08 to replace THAT fiver, naturally. :whistling:

Depends on the cigar and how bad you wanted to try it. If it where me I would toss it if the mold was in the foot. I would also keep the cigars that where in the box with it separated from all my other cigars for a while and monitor them.

You can always smoke it and see but it most likely will taint the flavor and not be the most enjoyable experience for you.

You'll get different opinions on what to do / how to treat moldy cigars. Some guys say a little mold on the wrapper isn't a big deal but IMHO since the wrapper is much of the flavor of the finished cigar, it is a big deal. No one will argue that you should immediately remove it from the humidor and if you have humidity issues....deal with them pronto.

You have nothing to lose by trying to smoke the cigar. For me, every time I've tried to smoke a cigar with visible mold spots, be they little ones on the wrapper or mold on the foot (both of which usually can be brushed off) the damage internally is already done and they smoke like old gym socks. Eecch.....I can't do it.

It probably won't kill you and if you can't notice the taste, go for it. Personally, I just can't do it.

Good luck - B.B.S.
