I'm having a problem with pop ups that are coming in all the time. I don't have to be actively using the web to receive these pop ups. When these pop ups come in they will minimize the program I'm using.
I didn't have this problem until 4 days ago. A file I downloaded had a Trojan that McAfee picked up and deleted. Don't know if there was something else that it didn't find but have got these damn pop ups after that.

Is there a setting in IE that could have been changed? Some kind of virus? I'm at a loss.

My parents had this on their computer a little while back. Usually spyware programs will get rid of it. Try Spy-Sweeper, Adaware, Spy-bot Search and Destroy, or Spyblaster. Im a little anal about viruses and pop-ups, so I have all 4 on my machine as well as ZoneAlarm firewall software and Norton Antivirus. But I have never had a virus and have little to no problems with ad-programs and spyware. Hope this helps!

I use all these at work and they work great. Adaware is my favorite, just be carefull in what you delete.

Let me add my vote for Ad Aware, it is top notch. I like it soo much that I actually upgraded and bought the Pro Version not expecting much for the money but to "reward" the company for making such a good product. Turns out the "Ad Watch" component that is included with the Pro version is an excellent pop up blocker and catches Pop Ups that toolbar (Google, Yahoo, etc) pop up blockers were missing. It is also a lot easier to turn Ad Watch on/off than the toolbar type blockers.

If you have windows XP and know when the problem started run the System Restore wizard. XP takes "a snapshot" daily and when you install programs/updates; you can roll back to the state several days or several months ago. I have found I have the most success with the System Restore by booting into safe mode and then running it.

Good Luck!
Matt

I'm all over AdAware, and Spybot S&D. Another thing if you have XP is to disable the Messenger Service.
download the run the program in THIS
Choose to disable the messenger service. That might take care of some of your popup problems.

Good Luck,
Dave

OK, I've run Adware, SpyBot, Spy Sweeper. I've turned off IE's messenger service. I've checked system startup and windows task manager for any unwanted programs running. And the DAMN pop ups are still coming in. I have found a unbelievable number of ad bots, data miners, and internet trackers on my system. I've deleted them all and still the DAMN pop ups come in. Thanks to a kind Brother I'm going to change my web browser. If that doesn't help I'm at wits end and may shoot my system.

Thanks to all for the help.
