Hey all,
I just moved into a new house with a nice big back yard. I've been building a couple of horse shoe pits, bought a grill, and got the stogies ready. Unfortunately, I can't go outside for more than a few seconds without getting attacked by mosquitos. I use off with deet, which works, but I still manage to get a bite or two. I've also tried a yard fogger, but I wasn't able to notice any results. There is no standing water on my property, and my next door neighbors seems to be shut-ins as I've been living at the new house for weeks and haven't seen either neighbor yet. Has anyone tried Orkin, one of those propane traps, etc?

Scour your yard for ANY standing water. It takes very little to provide a place breed larvae. The propane traps work the best. Mosquitos don't much care about the UV bug zappers. They home in on CO2.

Our state bird is the mosquito. Bug zappers don't do anything with skeeters. The propane traps work the best, but they are expensive and propane sure isn't getting any cheaper. They are pretty efficient, though. My in-laws have one and it works pretty well.

Your yard may be dry, but what about the neighbors' yards? What about your gutters? Any low spots there where water can accumulate? Like Bruce said, it takes very little water to support a large number of mosquitoes.

We just spray down with the DEET and go outside. If you're still getting bitten you may need to make sure you're getting good coverage. If there's one little spot on your body that isn't covered, they'll find it. Don't forget to spray your clothes.

We live near wetlands so it doesn't matter what we do, we're always going to have skeeters. The DEET is the best repellent out there.

The HOA has a truck come around the development and spray all the trees and around the retention ponds and the county uses airplanes to spray but neither do much good. The skeeters around here are like lil black helicopters and vicious!! I try to stay in the screened in lanai lol
