Mosquitos

A friend of mine just sent this suggestion..don't know if it works, but I'll try anything to combat those pesky rascals:


Here is a good thing for the summer, for those
who like to sit enjoy the out of
doors, but don't like those pesky mosquitoes.
was given at a gardening forum:

Put some water in a white dinner plate and add
just a couple of drops of Lemon Fresh Joy
dishwashing soap. Set the dish on a porch or patio.
Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the
white color, or what, but mosquitoes flock to it,
and drop dead, or fall into the water, or on the
floor within about 10 ft.

Works just super!

Ever since the flood we just had here in South Texas there are tons of patches of standing water. These skeeters are out in force. Maybe this will come in handy.

I live near a pond and it attracts a colony of bats that eats any and all flying insects at night, including mosquitos. I've got a bat house in the back yard to make sure they stay in the area. :thumbs:

I've heard of that one, but I didn't think it made them drop dead, I thought it just attracted them and if they happened to fall in... BAM. Floatin' lemony fresh dead bugs.

SWEET!!!! I'm going to have to try it! I get torn up by the freakin' mosquitoes when I sit outside. I'll let you know if it works!

I dunno if that works, but living near the salt ponds in Key West I know somethin bout those pests...Here is what works for me:

1. Screened porch
2. A few(3-10) cigar smoking(make sure they bring their own smokes!!!) drinking buddies(Poker players a plus)
3. Their wife and kids to join
4. A BBQ pit or very large gas grill
5. A pony keg of cold brew or 4 cases
6. 1 Bottle of Jonnie Walker(or Chivas), 1 Bottle of rum, 1 Bottle of Sour Mash or Bourbon...Substitue Tequila or Vodka with some Fu-Fu mixer stuff for the Harem
7. 3-4 pounds of red meat any variety, 1-2 pounds of pre-roasted pork slathered with your favorite BBQ sauce, 1 lb of Dogs or Sausage...
8. 2 of those citronella thingies.

The key is to get the kids and chatter-boxes around the corner of the house in the kiddie pools. Just put one citronella thing 10 feet from the kids/wife's on each side of them(make a big deal bout keeping them safe from bugs!!!). Place the grill at the corner of the house. The key is not to clean the grill for a long time so it is really smokey!!! Then around the corner, put a big round table or 2 in the screened in porch. This is where you, the keg, the liqour(minus the Fu-Fu crap) is, plus your buddies herfin on some praticularly good tasting foul smelling gars...The key is, the gars keep the pests away!!! Ok, I know the screen helps keep the bugs out, but the gars keep the wifes and kids out also!!!
A key Variation is to omit ingrediants 1,3, and 8. This actually can increase the pleasure of all the other ingrediants...

When I go fishing I am alone or with the wife...when we go fishing, I am busy baiting their hooks, making rigs, or retrieving things the kids throw in the water, so I really don't fish them...I'll get 2-3 good casts and thats it...

i was about to buy the Coleman Mosquito-Deleto, but it's about $169. i'll try the lemony fresh water first i think! the mosquitos around here occasionally carry west-nile like virus/encephalitis. joy. luckily we're in a 2 year drought, so it's not as bad as it could be.
