So I purchased a mountain bike a couple weeks ago. I lift weights regularly, but needed some cardio exercise, and frankly I hate to run. So I figured I'd get a moutain bike. Lots of trails in the area, etc.

Well tonight I went out for the first time with the clip in pedals'/shoes combination. Funny part is my buddy was like, dude you're going to crash learning to get used to the pedals...its inevitable... :sign:

He didn't say it was going to be the first night. IF someone would have gotten this on video, you'd all get a great laugh...

Going down a hill picking up speed...ok, now I'm going too fast. Trying to slow down before the curve and I forget I'm on a mountain bike, and not my motorcycle. TRAIL BRAKING WITH THE FRONT WHEEL ON A MOUNTAIN BIKE IS A BAD IDEA, MMMKAY!!! So I totally loose the front, OH SHIT MY FEET ARE STUCK...

I ate shit big time. Totally thrashed my right side.

Can't wait to go do it tomorrow.

Sounds exactly like my first time with clip in pedals. I think its a right of passage. I would hardly ever crash with normal pedals, first day out with clip ins, guess what happened.........took the skin off my left elbow and knee......

You gotta love it!!

At least you dumped on a trail. My first time riding clipped in, I suffered the indignity of falling over in the parking lot of the forest preserve where I used to ride. It happened in slow motion in front of a good number of people--real smooth. You'll get the hang of kicking out your heels soon enough. Be safe out there. There was more than one occasion where my helmet saved me from smashing my head open on rocks.

Been there done that. It's more fun watching your buddy come to a stop and not get unclipped in time and fall over slowly IMO :whistling:

Been there before. I have had it happen twice, once was a quick stop with more riders ahead of me and was unable to get moving again before falling, the other was on a trail similar to your situation. It is definately a right of passage. Glad you are ok and hopping back on the saddle.

hmmm I guess I’m wondering what the benefit of clip in peddles is? Sounds like you had fun HB.

Sorry to hear about the crash. Has happened to many a good people. However clipless pedals are the way to go. They are much more stable then toe clips and they allow you more leverage as you pedal. I have been riding with clipless for years now and would never go back.
