My wonderful wife and I are about to watch Appaloosa. What has everyone else seen lately and what are your picks for the Oscars.

Just saw Miracle at St. Anna thought it was ok and it was an interesting movie. A little weird ending but plenty of twists in the movie and the one event, at St. Anna's church is based on a real event though the movie is not.

My recent views of good movies was Pride and Glory which I thought was awesome. Great cop drama.

I also liked Rock N Rolla. Its a great Guy Ritchie Film and is comparable to Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

A good real life movie was the express.

I'll probably watch one or two movies tonight either W or Gone in 60 Seconds (the original from 1974).

I realize I have listed a ton of movies but thats what happens when you also work part time at a video store and get free rentals before the movies are officially released on DVD.

I saw Appaloosa last night... was ok I guess. Not that great. The story was a bit rambling and everyone mumbled too damn much.

I just saw Taken with the gf tonight, and must say it was a fantastic film. Best I've seen all year.

Being a self-proclaimed "buff" I submit the following:

The excellent:
1) Slumdog Millionaire
2) Frost/Nixon
3) Dark Knight
4) Gran Torino (almost got the bump to good)

The good/decent:
1) Pride and Glory (had potential to be excellent, missed the mark)
2) Doubt (almost made excellent)
3) Defiance
4) RockNRolla (a niche film for sure, but plenty of content to keep most interested)
5) Quantum of Solace
6) Taken (almost hit mediocre, but Neeson did a superb job)
7) Curious Case of Benjamin Button (good is being generous - this probably belongs to mediocre)
8) Role Models (horrible message, albeit hilarious)
9) Valkyrie

The mediocre:
1) Push
2) Paul Bart Mall Cop
3) Body of Lies (far too predictable and "meh" performances all around - I never felt engaged in this film)
4) Seven Pounds (arguably Will Smith's weakest role to date)
5) Righteous Kill (almost bad - you would think that with De Niro and Pacino you could do better)

The bad:
1) Most new cookie-cutter horror films.
2) The Day the Earth Stood Still
3) Twilight
5) Unborn
6) The Uninvited
