This week marked the largest deployment of Illinois National Guard troops since WWII, approx 2,700 troops.

Today, my unit, the 634th BSB moved out enroute to their mission in Afghanistan as part of that deployment.

As the Battalion Rear Detachment Commander I will be left behind to command the 490 troops that are not deploying. I've always thought it would be much easier to stand and watch the troops leave than it was to be the one leaving. I found out today how tough it really is. Every fiber of my being wanted to get on that bus today and go with them. It was hard to watch.

God speed! I'm glad for your family that you're still with them. Maybe this conflict will end with dignity for the U.S. in a short time. My prayers will go with all the troops in harm's way.

I'm sure that since they have been prepared by you, they will be as ready as they possibly can to deal with whatever awaits them. I wish both your unit, and yourself, the best of luck in this endeavor, and I will keep you both in my thoughts.
 
Wyatt, I have you with your entire family along with the 634th BSB in my thoughts and prayers. Godspeed and a safe deployment, hopefully this war will be over soon....... :) :thumbs: :cool:
 
They'll be in our prayers along with all of our servicemen and women and their families.

It will be a comfort to them that you are at home making sure things go well for their families.

Wyatt, the uncertainty of not knowing their fates in your absence is a hard pill to swallow. Learn this lesson well and pass it on to your military brothers & sisters. This is the training that makes our Country's commanders strong!
