I hardly ever go to my B&M because the prices are horrible. Every tobacco shop in this city is bad, surrounding smaller cities too. I stopped there today, here are some examples...

A Fuente Curlyhead $3.70
Padron 2000 Natural $8.80
HdM Excaliber $10+ depending on size

That is all I remember off the top of my head. Is anyone else in the same boat or is this just outrageous?

Prices at my local B&M depend on the amount you purchase. They will usually match the price on box's for me if I show them I can get it at another retailer cheaper, including the net. With singles they have a special every Friday-Buy 3 get 1 Free. With a membership there you also get a discount on all your purchases including specials.

Yep, we have some of the nastiest tobacco taxes in the country here in MN. I will buy a cigar when I smoke in a B&M or if I want to try one that is new to me but then I will buy boxes online/out of state. There are a number of excellent vendors around the country who are members here on CP. PM me if you need some names.

That's Minnesotax for you. It's the same all over the state.

How about a CAO Cameroon Robusto for $12.50? A Short Story for $10.25? An Onyx #4 for $8.50? I could go on and on. Granted, some of this is just the bad pricing of the craptastic store we have up here in Duluth, but most of it is attributable to the state tobacco tax.

We have it pretty bad, but not as bad as some other places. Cigar smoking is an expensive hobby.

The bad thing is that there is never any events or anything going on. It is also not fun to talk to the guy. There is only 1 owner and he is there everytime I go. I always try to talk to him to get a relationship going but he gives short 1 word answers and never contributes to the conversation. I have gone in probably around 20 times the past year (every other week) and always leave with just a curlyhead, churchill reject, or Arango because I can't afford anything else :p

I think it is about time to give up on B&Ms around here...

How about a Gispert Lonsdale for 6.50$. I found one online for like, 3.00$. The problem is, there is no where else to go in Worcester, Ma.

I think your lucky, up here in Canada the taxes are ridiculous, my local B&M's prices are pretty insane, and since all the other local stores went out of business, theres not much to choose from... I'de say a Padron 2k natural is around 15dollars a piece :(

then again, I get some discounts from the owner as I have bounded a bit with him and have been a regular...plus he matches other prices if he carries the same brand...maybe try that?

Hard to believe there are higher taxes than CA.

We're at 70% wholesale here. We are getting close to Top 5 status in taxes again with the recent increase in the gas tax. Electricity is about the only thing that's "cheap" here compared to other places. Home prices are a whole other thing, of course. We can't touch you guys (or a lot of other places) on that one. We can thank the winters for that. :)

Edited to add:

DK, there's a group of guys down there that meet up about every week. Contact Swifty, simmsboard, siriusstoogie, or tsmckenney. They're great guys!

Taxes down here in Australia are massive, a box of Padron 3K Maddies run around $350 AUD. On top of the huge tax they charge, we have draconian restrictions on where you can smoke. Not allowed within 4 metres of a non residential entrance, on a public beach, bars, and even cigar bars are not exempt from the laws. The only public place you can smoke indoors in Queensland are high roller rooms at casinos. The government is considering banning smoking in vehicles now....nice

ohhh yes. I know the pain mate. Unbelievable prices and nowhere to smoke here in SA as well. We don't even have high roller rooms here. No smoking indoors at ANY public place.

AFH Short story after taxes here in Germany costs 12.50 Euro... thats over 19 dollars at the current exchange rate

A box of Padrón 2000 goes for over 350 Euro... thats close to 550 dollars a box.

It might as well be everywhere up here as well as I am not likely to see the inside of a high roller room any time soon!!

What B&M is that?

My local is usually dead on with prices, but with the latest shipment of Opus he has sored through the roof. He is asking $16.00 and up depending on vitola, this is usually not he style! No happy about it and I refuse to buy an overpriced Opus.

I got it pretty lucky. No cigar or sales tax here and the B$M's are usually within a dollar of msrp.

Doc.

Electricity in my city is pretty high too, about 12.5C KWH. Compared to my brother in law one city over (different county) and is at 7C KWH.

I remember talking to those guys that meet up. I would love to, unfortunatly, I travel for work. I am not sure how much longer I will be able to do it, being gone almost every week is getting tough. I don't think I get compensated nearly enough either. However, I am only 23 and got a starter house because of this job.
Wow. I get Padron 2000s for $3.50 at my B&M. You guys should all move to Texas :p
Agreed! I love it here. I feel especially bad for you folks out in Europe or Australia. Ouch.

At least with the advent of online ordering, you can ease the strain on your wallets a little bit. Not much you can do about the draconian smoking laws though.

Listening to some of you I count myself VERY fortunate. Pennsylvania has no tobacco tax on cigars. Every state except for PA has at least some tax on non-cigarette tobacco products. FL and NH do not tax cigars, but do tax all other tobacco products. Thus we only get tagged the 6% sales tax on in-state sales. Not as good as NH but pretty good compared to you folks down under! (I guess that may be why folks like CI and Holts, are here in PA.)

edited to correct stupidity!
