I get home from work and to my surprise, my mail box is destroyed to smithereens. My ole' smokin' budy from Florida, jgohlke (Joe) sends me a real nice selection of top end smokes and also a one of a kind ash tray made out of cherry / black walnut wood. Joe stated that the black walnut wood has been in the family since the mid 60s and in reference to the cherry wood, he helped cut down that tree himself years ago. It's a real piece of art and when I do use it, only top end smokes will be honored for this baby. Again, thanks a lot Joe and I hope you have your mail box cemented in deep enough....... :D  :p

Hey Charlie - Glad the package arrived in fine shape. Sounds like my aiming coordinates were right on the mark!

Charlie and I lived just across town from each other before he moved to NY. We met online here at CigarPass. At the time we met, I was recovering from foot surgery and recuperating at home. He invited me to join him in a local herf and when I mentioned that I wasn't driving, he offered to pick me up, cast, crutches and all. What a guy! During the time we hung out I found him to be a knowledgeable and generous true BOTL! We had some great times, smoking cigars, having a few beers and swapping Army stories! I miss ya man!

Here's a couple of pictures of the ashtray I made for Charlie (it's kind of in the theme of a Germain Beer Stein!)....

Enjoy brother!

Nice job man! Great looking ashtray! What do you coat the wood with so that it doesn't burn if the cigar touches it?

Very nice tray indeed. :)

Has anyone attempted to make their own humidor (from wood, not igloo :)). I've seen quite a few plans for free and some for only a few dollars. I was thinking of giving it a shot, more for a new project than needing another humidor (well, not yet at least).
