My thoughts on Passes

Passing is usually a way to pick up a few new sticks you haven't tried. However, it's not the cheap way to do this. IMO it will most likely cost you more than going to your local cigar shop and picking up a couple. By the time you trade fairly, bonus a good host, pay shipping and sometimes insurance. It is not going to be a bargin.
Cigar passes are more than just trading cigars! It's a way to have a small party and make some friends. It's about the people dammit! It's about showing a little class and good etiquette. It's educational. A way to find questions you want answered. Sure... it's about haveing fun. But that gets spoiled for everyone if someone gets in on a pass and tries to get out on top! So if you are joining passes to get something for nothing... DON"T BOTHER!

One last thing. For those of you who think I have nothing better to do than lurk around and "stir up ****" so it's been called a few times. You are the ones this board needs to be leary of. All I am doing is trying to educate the newer members to fair passing. THIS IS CIGARPASS.COM! Passes are posted on the board. They are for public reading. So when I see something that doesn't look right, I'm going to say so in hopes that it educates someone who wants to make this site better. If you want to have a private pass, then make it a PM pass. You can then try to get over on each other all you want with out being called on it.

Great post Michael. Passes are all about fun. For me it is a blast to follow the threads and watch all the puts/takes. I especially enjoy all the smart a$$ remarks and good natured ribbing that goes along with it. It's a shame there are those that would try and take advantage of the other players :(

I agree. Having done one pass now, I found myself picking from the list. I know it would have been cheaper going to the store, but that's not what I'm in it for. I got to pull a couple of good sticks, and put in some equal ones that someone might not have tried. I also found pleasure (don't go there) :p in seeing some of my puts already taken.

In my next pass, I'm looking forward to pulling not from the list, but looking at all the cigars and pulling new, unique ones that look good that I may not have thought of before.

So...join a pass for fun and the friendship, shop online for deals.
 
Michael- Great post, and I agree.

However I will add this, while its very true that from a dollar value aspect of it its cheaper to go buy your cigars rather than trade in a pass... I think the concept of the pass is designed for established cigar smokers and collectors who buy boxes and not singles.

In other words, if I have many half full boxes of cigars in my coolador, and I join a pass- I can trade half a dozen of cigars I HAVE EXTRA'S OF, for half a dozen cigars of equal or lesser value I don't have, want to try, never heard of or would go out and buy anyway... understand? :)

If I'm a guy who ONLY buys singles- Passes should be joined and played for the experience and fun- not the dollar value. (as CohibaSurfer said above)

Oh and Michael- You are a **** stir'er up'er- deal with it! :p :D :thumbs: LOL!
