Okay, I know this sounds kinda weak, but being as how I've never been to Vegas before I need to ask.

I've been getting LOTS of advice from some folks at work who, when finding out I'm planning on walking a $500 box of cigars from Caesars to my hotel (Imperial Palace, less money spent on room means more money for Casa de Fuente  ), keep telling me "Good luck with that mate!"

So, I know some of ya'll live there, and some of you have been there and done this once or twice. Seriously, how big of a security issue am I looking at trying to get these things back to my hotel?

If I were younger, braver, and a little quicker on my feet I'd just run them across the street, but I just know I'll go *splat* if I try that.
For those who aren't familiar with The Imperial Palace, it is literally right across the strip from the forum shops. Looks like a 25 to 50 yard run at most from door to door.
But, if I don't want to get wiped out by a car, I basically have to walk 50 yards down to the cross-over, walk across three intersections, then back 50yards to the hotel. The pedestrian equivalent of a huge freaking U-turn.

Should I make the trip during the day when the bad guys can see me coming a mile away because there's hardly no one else around, or make it at night when the streets are so crowded I can't see the bad guys sneaking up on me?
Will Casa deliver to my hotel?
Will they UPS to the house from the store?
Anyone have a REALLY F'ing vicious rabid leg-humper I can borrow?
Am I worrying about a tempest in a tea-cup, as my dear old gran used to say?

???

Thanks guys! :)

Yes.

Buy the smokes and walk to your hotel. Preferably during the day. Shouldn't be a problem if you stay out of dark alleys and strip joints.

Stay out of the strip joints??!! What kind of fun will he have in Vegas?

In NYC I have went to my B&M and purchased an equivalent amount in cigars and travelled on the subway with them. If they are in an opaque bag, I would see no problem, particularly if it is during the day.

Foget that. You are in danger, mail them to me to hold!! :whistling:

No worries at all.

IM sure the pl would be more interested in stealing the bags from the higer end stores in the mall.

Like maybe a Harry Winston...Chanel..Coach..Tag..LOL!

I've been to the Imperial a couple times. That's where the Feds put their people when they are in Vegas. You won't have a problem, just do walk them in broad daylight. The only time the strip gets scary or 'hairy' is after dark. And I'm talkin' late.

I have went to vegas once a year for a couple years now. I wouldn't worry about it if you do it during the day. I have only seen one incident where I saw someone try to snatch a wallet from someone and it was at a bar. I think you will be fine. P.S. Enjoy the smokes.

Send me a ticket and I'll be your muscle. My pay will be half the cigars, at least with me you get to keep half the cigars.

Don't sweat it and get the cigars and walk them over.

I admit I've only been to Vegas twice, but I doubt this would be a problem at any time from sunup to about midnight. During the day is obviously the easiest to see, but at night the streets are pretty full so I have a hard time thinking a scumbag could truly target your shopping bag. I would roll the bag up around the cigar box and carry it like a football (or a testbook if you're the nerdy type, like me :p ), and I don't see you having any trouble.

Most people, including many cigar smokers (keeping in mind that we are the minority and that many cigar smokers rarely enjoy a cigar), could not tell the difference between a cigar from Casa Fuente or your local convenience store. If they could tell the difference, they'd most likely choose the convenience store cigar. The rest not only couldn't tell the difference, but couldn't care less.

I think you'll be safe as can be carrying your parcel around.

Theres only one thing to do, dart down dark allies at night the whole way back so no one sees you.

Seriously though.. I’m sure there are a lot of bag snatchers but are they really looking for cigars…?

Since living in Vegas, I never hear any news reports about a guy getting mugged for cigars while on the strip. You should be okay. If someone does try to mug you, just swing your box of cigars like a little old lady swinging her purse, you might just knock him out.

With that said, what would be the exact time of your purchase and trek across the street to IP and what will you be wearing? :whistling:

Use a box of Fuente smokes as a weapon??!! Are you NUTS!!?? You could damage them! :sign:

Geez...the sky is falling, the sky is falling :D

Yes, just don't look like you are trying not to get hit. Walk like you know what you are doing & where you are going. An opaque or generic bag is a good idea and go right back to your room where you DON"T leave them in the open. True the Feds love that place for some reason, always have. You may want to ask if they will mail to CO and not charge taxes, it's worth a try. Just get a tracking number and pay by credit card. Vegas has no interest in having visitors feeling unsafe.

Actually, the sad fact is, that if you go to Las Vegas, you will almost certainly die.
17 out of 18 visitors to Las Vegas fall victim to terrible, bloody, violent crimes. You should reschedule your vacation, and go to St. paul instead, where the number falls to a more manageable 11 out of 17 visitors who are bludgeoned. There is a lovely town called Sheremansberg in northwest Noth Dakota where you would probably feel safe, where less than half of visitors leave with any more scars than they arrived with.
In Vegas, the only way you will survive is if you go immediately from the airport and then hide in your room the entire time. Do not open the shades (snipers) or open the door for anyone (Trauma Sturgeons posing as housekeeping).

When the time to leave mercifully arrives, run RUN to the cab, throwing money up in the air as you sprint. The murder-gangs will be distracted and go for the cash, and not for you....hopefully. You will notice that the casinos and the streets will be nearly completely empty at all hours due to the extreme danger of setting foot on The Strip.
