ok, ok, i know this sounds familiar. but the cigar pass h.r. department informed me that i have 2-"i need help posts" left that i havent used and if i dont use them by the end of the year, ill lose them.

so here goes. in a few weeks im going to have a scotch/cigar tasting at my cigar shop. its gonna be a private party for the locker members we have so i want to make sure i do it right. everything will be paid for by me so keep that in mind. i am going to provide a monte #2 and some type of scotch. the problem is that i know nothing about scotch (even less than i know about photoshop). i need some recommendations on what to get and how much. im expecting about 25 guys/gals there and it will last for a few hours. i recently bought a bottle of Dalwhinnie 29 from denverdog. supposidly thats pretty good stuff so i thought about buying another bottle or two, but im thinking that might a hard to find bottle. i also thought about trading that bottle to someone here for a couple of lesser bottles. is there any good finger food that goes with scotch?

as you can see, im really clueless. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are 25 one ounce shots in a standard bottle. Since most people are not that accurate you normally get 18-20. If the goal is to have everybody try some then you need more then one bottle of each of whatever you are tasting unless you hold it to 20 people.

Also, is the idea just to try different scotches irregardless of where they are from or do you want to just do Speyside, Highland, Island etc etc. Maybe a tour of all seven regions is what you want to do? Maybe a mini vertical testing with the Dalwhinnie 29 and the Dalwhinnie 15 would be interesting as the ending of the evening. You need to decide this so you can figure out what else to buy.

Mild cheeses and low salt (not made with low salt but not much salt on them) crackers work in general. Stay away from stuff like salsa or other spicy foods. Pate (make with chicken liver) si fairly cheap and pretty good too.

BTW, the HR department is wrong. Please forward payment at the rate of $0.25 per word to me at your earliest convenience..

ok, maybe im not looking for a scotch "tasting" as much as im looking for some scoth to accompany the cigars. my guess is that over a 2-3 hour period each person with drink more than 1 shot. i like the idea of the D15 year in addition to the D29. much cheaper and easier to find.

Well, if you are going to do a vertical then another one to look for would be the 1990 Double Matured. That runs about $70-80. There is a 14yo Distiller's Edition but I don't know how different that would be over the normal 15 yo version.

You are counting the words............right ???

You could always pick up a bottle or two of a Cigar Malt. For example I just picked up a bottle of the Dalmore Cigar Malt, and I know there's several others available too.

These are supposed to be good for pairing with a cigar, or so the label says.
