Balvenie recently announced they will have another new 17 year old release this fall, this one with a Carribean Rum finish. Here in AZ it's still hard to find the sherry oak 17 that replaced the new oak 17 a while back.

I wonder if the sherry oak flopped?

IMHO the Sherry Oak was one of the best Balvenies I've ever tasted. The New Oak was a definitely flop though.

If anyone has a Sherry Oak bottle they don't like i'll gladly dispose of it. :)

edit to add I would love to try this Rum Finish version as well...sounds excellent

Actually the NewOak replaced the NewWood. The SherryOak is a different beast altogether. I wrote Balvenie asking what the differences are between the new RumCask and the old RumWood besides the new version being 3 years older. No reply as of yet.

MorningWood, NewOak, SherryOak, Rum Finish all 17 year old single malts. Who could possibly keep track? :sign:

Please let us know when they respond.

Hey AVB, any word from the good folks at The Balvenie on the difference between RumWood and RumCask?

Finally an answer from Balvenie.

"Dear Mr XXXXX

Apologies if you did not receive our response previously. We did reply to you, but sometimes our emails do not get through. We hope that this one gets through to you.

In answer to your question, The Balvenie RumWood 14 year old is another limited edition matured in traditional oak, then finished for up to 18 months in oak casks previously used to mature Rum. The Balvenie RumCask 16 year old is also matured in the same way (first in traditional oak and then in rum casks for a second maturation period) but for two additional years, giving it an added intensity and sweetness.

We hope this answers your question and wish you many years of continued pleasure in the company of The Balvenie.

Kindest regards,

Online Editor
The Balvenie single malt Scotch whisky"

Thanks for the update, AVB. Like many of you, I'm really looking forward to getting a bottle of this.

AVB,
Thanks for posting the email the editor sent you. I too am hoping to pick up a bottle of the 17 in your Oct group buy.

Edit:
From reading your update on the other thread I guess I'll be able to buy this locally soon enough. I still hope to participate in your buy.

This has hit the warehouses in PA and we should be seeing it on the shelves soon. Price $129.95

The UK version will be about the same price albeit for a smaller bottle and I usually don't offer things you can buy here in the US.

Ouch, more than I expected. Oh well, guess that just means I'll have to get one and not 3. Will this be in the group buy AVB?

This has hit some stores in PA yesterday and I'll have mine by the end of the day.

It is a somewhat limited edition so not every store that carries Balvenie will have it. I don't think you'll have to look too hard though.

AVB,

Will this be available nationwide to most places that carry Balvenie or will this require some hunting?
