Always make it look easy...
Vacation is quickly coming to an end, so I wanted to get a couple more of these back in. Today I reached for the Cream Stout by Sam Adams. In the glass a very rich dark color. It reminded me of dark dark black coffee or maybe even a cola soda. It had a rich thick tan head that held for a good while.
Unfortunately I didn't really find a lot going on in this beer. I think I expect a little more from a beer called Cream Stout. The initial thought that came to mind was "flat". I guess flat not meaning bad but just not a lot of complexity or spice. Overall the taste that were present very subtly were a hit of coffee and bitter chocolate although I wouldn't characterize the beer itself as bitter. It finished slightly creamy with no real after taste. If there were only this and a Budwieser left I would certainly go for this but otherwise I wouldn't go out of my way to get one.
HOWEVER....and there is always an however....this beer not being so in your face helped me to hone my skills in terms of really looking for the favors and taking my time to actually "taste" the beer and not drink it. So all is not lost.
