I got my first man sized shipment today and boy was I excited.
I couldn't wait to take pics and show you all the porn.

I can tell just from my reading here how bad these are :( . I looked at the bands and the stamps it is obvious to my untrained eye.

These Cuaba shaped fakes are the only ones that even smell good when I opened the box.

I tried to get a close up of the hasp because it looks like the real one from the CP link I read yesterday. Maybe they are getting better at this.

This round stamp over the top of the badly faked seal is what I thought I read on another link here.

I learned a great, albeit expensive lesson here, the friend of a friend, who knows a guy in Miami and sells stuff cheap......Probably means I am an idiot if I buy from them!

Nice boxes!

Yeah, the cmad5 box looks real nice, complete with the hasp that was described as real from another post I read. But the bands and look of the stick is not even close to the legit one I have. Not to mention the seal is a lime green and way too small in comparison. Also the box has a barnyard smell, grassy, not at all a deep tobacco smell.

Wait.....I hope you were not toying with a noob? I am a little disappointed with myself at the moment.

Can you open that Cohiba box on the left?

If you don't mind, how much did these cost you? Did you buy them in Miami?

Par 3 Cigars, Unfortunately this happens, take it as a lesson learned, and tell your friend in a nice way that they are fakes. This way other people won't be scammed.

sorry about your poor experience. if it is any consolation, you are not alone. it has happened to many wise botl. everyone seems to have a story from when they first started collecting. it's these experiences that force you to be diligent and have your eyes trained for problems.

find a good source, preferably one thats going to be available for communication. dont be afraid to ask questions.

in reference to the clasp on the cohiba maduro cinco. i cant see it clearly enough, but it appears that you clasp/brochette has the crossed branches on the black background design(popular among countelrfeiters) , not the clear indian head on a solid black background that should be on these boxes.

btw- it is curious that you mention the fine smell of the cohiba double figurados. what did you think you were buying? the wrappers look lovely and i wonder what you have there.

cheers

I thought I was buying Cuaba's. Is that the proper Vitola for these Double Figurados? Good to know. I have a thing for the off shaped sticks. I don't know why. They do smell good and smoke nice as well. Not too complex but a decent smoke. I do like the looks of them. I will post a better picture of the clasp for you to see as well as the open Cohiba box as asked for by another member. I am having a lot of fun with my new addiction so I guess it is not a total loss as I did learn a great deal here. These will be ok to give away to non-botl. But I am allready planning my next purchase as I have a legit source that I should have just stuck with to begin with.

or even BOTL's

Yeah, don't feel bad. It was just an expensive lesson; however, it was a valuable one and may be worth the money.

Good luck

Well, whatever they are, you may as well try them. Who knows? Maybe some will at least be smokable! Let us know how they taste and take a few apart and show us the postmortem photos. Have what fun you can with them! ;)

A college classmate went down to Cuba for a vacation/wedding, so I asked him if he wouldn't mind bringing me back a box of something. I didn't know what I wanted exactly and he wasn't experienced either, so I said "Anything Montecristo, just make sure you buy it from one of the government run shops so you don't get counterfeit crap." Needless to say, he decided to save a few bucks on my behalf and bought it from a street vendor's under the counter supply that his brother's friend gave to him because he works at the factory... that was the first tip off there was something fishy. That and the seal on the box looked like an inkjet printout stuck on with glue stick.

Luckily I wasn't on the hook, told him they were fakes and he decided to hang on to them and smoke them with some friends.

Here is the photo of the cab that jc988 wanted to see it is a mixed box of 5 different Churchill. They don't seem to be a large enough ring gauge though. I only have the cigar Aficionado paper gauge but they are smaller than all my other Churchill's

As an act of courtesy and respect to your fellow BOTL's, you should mark every one of these permanently as "FAKE".

You may know these are fakes, but if gifted to someone that didn't know, they could inadvertently (or purposefully) end up in trades, sales, passes, etc.

It's happened before...... :whistling:

Yep....very good point Tom.

i didnt mean to suggest that the cohibas are authentic, just that they are double figurados.

good luck with your next purchase.

check out the new vitolario de habanos. it is a fantastic resource that is beginning to replace the old guia completa. it only measures about 1.5" x 11" and it folds open like a fan, with a picture of every vitola produced by hsa and which marcas have that vitola. it also has a great ring guage and a conversion chart.

it is a must. we keep one in the walk-in and people prefer it over flipping through the old guia pages.

cheers

Thanks for all the positive thoughts guys. And Tom I will be sure to mark them so as never to have an issue with them. Although I fully expect them to be gone by the time I am eligible to join a pass.

Drew what I was asking is did those shapes look to be double figurados. There is no question of authenticity, they are $3 bills for sure.

Thanks for all the help, I am having so much fun I am giddy!!!!! :D

A friend of mine was all excited cuz he just returned from Euroland with a box of Cohibas. It was my turn to host cigar night on my roofdeck, so after grilling and swilling a bit, we lit them up. They were Lonsdale size and came in authentic looking yellow paper boxes. My buddies were all jazzed up to "finally be huffing some fine Cohibas!" I didn't have the heart to tell them, they weren't Cohibas...and didn't even taste like any ISOM I have ever had. Otoh, they were smokable cigars. So I just tried to enjoy it for what it was... about a $1 value cigar in my mind. :whistling:

I'd like to try one of those Cohiba Figurados, if you'd like to trade a couple, let me know.
