I'm looking to try something new, and am looking for advice. My go to sipping whiskeys and scotch are Crown, Jameson, Gentleman Jack and JW Black lable. I do not have the pallet or taste buds to really appreciate a complex or multi-dimensional whiskey or scotch, but would like to expand my world beyond those already mentioned. As for price, I'd like to stay in the $20-40 range. What do you guys recommend?

Your price range really limits single malts but Dalmore 12 and Balvenie DoubleWood should fit the bill.

I used to drink a bit of "Jack and Jim" in the past, but for whiskey in that price range, I really prefer Wild Turkey. The two I'd recommend for you to try are the 101 proof (about $20.00) and their "Rare Breed" (about $45.00). A generous splash over the rocks is the way many like it, but I drink mine neat. Both are complex, tasty beverages that go well with a quiet evening and a great smoke.

One man's opinion - B.B.S.

I'd recommend trying Blanton's or Knob Creek for bourbon. They're both great bourbons, they're easy to find, and they're reasonably priced. I believe a fifth of Knob Creek < $30.

Eagle Rare 10yr Bourbon runs about $29.00 here. It's my favorite Bourbon right now. Also Try the Johnny Walker Red. I get a sweetnes from it the Black does not have.

thanks guys for helping me narrow down AVB's ever expanding list. I'll looking at these on AVB's reviews right now.

Your "palate" would likely enjoy Craggenmore 12 yr (single malt) - I've found it in stores in the $30-40 range. AVB suggested I put a tiny bit of water to "open" it up - that sure made an incredible difference. For the money - I very much enjoyed it.

Tio me - the Dalmore has a bit rougher finish, but it's nice paired with a stronger cigar.

I recently found some Glenrothes in the $30-40 range (on sale). It's not much more than $40 normally. I highly recommend that as well.

If your looking for some cheap peat, Bowmore Legend, for $20 is a hell of a deal.
