Power has been out since Monday June 6 except for a 2 hours on that day, that allowed locals to fill up their water tanks. They had been without water 8 days, my father in law uses a water pump to pull it into the ground and roof tanks. This last weekend I was lucky as the power went out 2-4 hours, 30 minutes, 5 hours and like that. I only had to use 3 1/2 gallons of gas for this trip at $6/gallon. But is was a pain in the booty. Do I start the generator or do I wait? Many of you have asked about going down there. I don't suggest it at this moment unless you are ready for camping conditions. Restaurants are super suspect as one cant be sure if they have managed to refrigerate their food. I take down everything I will use for meals. Walking around at night with no lights at first had me worried but I am getting used to it. Just lucky I guess that I am in a peaceful neighborhood (Playa) and no one is acting up. Last week, I have a close friend that went to a protest because of the power. He said there was about 300 there (La Lisa) and National Security showed up without uniforms. Some filming in the background, others interviewing the locals. They asked him if he was protesting and he said "I love the Revolution, I am not here to protest, we are just here because we have no power and its hot in the house". The power came on 2 hours later. I guess they didn't like the numbers of 300:10. On Thursday July 2, Diaz Canel on TV stated: "We have to save socialism and we have to save the revolution but we can't save every Cuban". So I guess what they are saying is we don't care about you. A lot of this is not being reported as its the same news over and over. FOX tends to be very right wing about it and its their moment to talk bad about the revolution and communism instead of the real problem. There are other sources outside of the US that give a better view of what's going on. If you decide to go down there, wait until January/February as they had some 50F-60F's, cool, breezy weather earlier this year. Most beautiful weather and no mosquitos. John
