I got off early from work today and decided i would head to the lake down the street and throw a line or two in the water. Wasnt even there 10 minutes and i turned my back for a second to find that my pole was following my dog who was running down the road. LIttle bastard swallowed...hook, line and sinker!! I cut the line and rushed him to the vet where they took X-rays to find my treble hook loaded full of powerbait stuck just before his stomach. Great..."so how much is this time gonna cost me??" i asked.

The doc told me i had two options....hope for the best and cross my fingers that it will pass(cant imagine 3 sharp barbs working its way through a digestive system), or do surgury immediatly. I opted for the surgury...cant and wont put my best bud through those kinds of risks...even if he is more trouble than hes worth!! :whistling: :whistling: Doc says he got the hook out no problem just a few mins ago and that he should be just fine in a couple days. Anywho....im out a cool 950 bucks....there goes my "smoke" fund for the next few months!!

Either that, or ill have to resort to swisher sweets and backwoods....

"Who, me???"

maybe you should feed that poor boy! lol, good to hear you opted for surgery though, Im sure he appreciates it. he looks like a great dog though, the kind that just loves to be around you to hang out.

I feel you pain, and share your love for dogs.

Week before last one of our oldest, a poodle about ten years old (Natasha) came down sick, like, I'm going to die sick. Emergency surgery....a restless night (on my wife's and my part) and our doggie is alive, well, and back in black (or grey as the case may be).

.....$987.00.... :whistling:

No sweat - if you feel a S.S. coming on, I can put a "dog lover" care package in the mail....

Got to take care of our canine buddies, to be sure.

Best Regards - B.B.S.

Those damn treble hooks will get you everytime! Glad to hear the doc got him through it alright. :)

And I know what you mean about those emergency vet bills ($860 on our cat after he was bit by a snake). Here's to a speedy recovery for your buddy!

Glad the pup's okay!

Now guys, do me a favor, DON'T ever take a free guinea pig from a friend as the FIRST pet for your child.

Have you ever seen a guinea pig on an IV?!?!?! Oh my God!! Inbreeding, inbreeding, inbreeding!!!

Calcium deficiency, teeth that grow sideways over the tongue and need to be filed while the pig is knocked out. :0

FREE, HUH? :sign:

And the poor thing died during the third surgery (my son still blames the vet :( ).

Dogs are much smarter and better companions (heartier too)! :D

Oh well, live and learn! ;)

Hope he heals fast and is back on his feet in no time.

Just a side note...

You can't claim this as 'I had one this big on the line'....

Hey, at least you caught something! That's more than I can say over the past month or so! haha, just kdding. Glad the pooch is okay. I totally understand spending that kind of money on animals. Grew up with them all my life, and seen more than one go through all kinds of treatments and surgeries. As much of a pain as they can sometimes be, they sure are worth it. When I was in school, there were a few times where I would spend the last week of the month eating Ramen noodles and canned corn just so my cats could eat right until I got my next paycheck. Thank God those days are over! Not by much, but over nonetheless!

You should have taught the cats to hunt mice and birds for you to eat so you'd get some protien in your diet. :D

man o man... i feel for ya, bro. I'd go to the ends of the Earth for my two mutts! Glad the pooch is doing ok- mine are giving a big paws up for yours.

not as dramatic as hooks, but I just got back from my own fishing trip and one of the things I caught was my brothers dog! He walked right down to the waters edge, and jumped in! Here's where he jumped-

he was about 3-5 seconds from going into the main current and never being seen again! I managed to get my net on him and pull him in. I'm his new bestest bud...

give yours a scratch for us...
(BTW... what vet would tellyou to wait and see if a treble hook will work it's way thru?!?!?!?!)

Glad pooch is doing well. I've had to take mine to the Vet 2 times because she dislocated her shoulder by trying to squeeze through a cat hole.

I was wondering the same thing...i think he ment more of the way of it just digesting or disinegrating under stomach acids and such than it acutally passing. Either way, thats a horable suggestion!! Hes doin fine...movin a little slow but thats expected!

Glad to hear the little guy's doing fine! I think I'll go play with my dog in the yard, just cause you've got me thinking how much we love him!
