Just recently joined this board and just getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus. Decided to start a search for my "go to cigar". What would be the draw backs of buying the various sampler packs from one of the well know sources to sample a wider variety? Some of the lower priced packages look very reasonable.
Thanks, Gene

Gene,
First off welcome. As a noob myself I have found the "newbie sampler trade" was the best way for me to find my legs. Go to the BUY/SELL/TRADE thread and read the Newbie Sampler Trade thread. Also If you haven't posted an introduction make sure you do.

I agree with Frank (and am also a newb). the Newbie pass got me engaged with some of the FOGs and I got a heck of a deal and an unbelievable selection of cigars to try. Helps you start to narrow down what you like/don't like.

I fell sucker a couple of times to those "deals" on these websites. The problem with that is, you'll get 1 cigar that would be worthwhile buying and lots of dog rockets. They once sent me a cigar called "The Brick." I have it deep in my humi with no intentions of putting a flame nowhere near its vicinity. But I am anxious to throw it at somebody!

And to reiterate what the above have said, the newbie sampler is the way to go. If you like strong bodied smokes - theorangeman is your guy!!

I agree...the newbie trade is where it is at. And I can recommend that because I see the outstanding deals going on all the time.

I've smoked for years, but just recently discovered the cigar phenomenon on the Internet. I started to see all of these sampler deals, and before I knew it I had to buy a bigger humidor. I fell into the trap of purchasing too many of those really good deals, and as Nasty pointed out I ended up with a couple good smokes and a bunch of dog rockets.

The members here right really good reviews, so I would head over to the forum first and start reading through them. Make a list of all the sticks that pique your interest then head to your local B&M or visit a website that sells singles. I think this is a better way to find a good go to cigar than purchasing a bunch of samplers in the hopes of finding something good.
