Oban 14, looking for something similar

So my wife and I have recently taken on the task of getting rid of clutter around the house, and that has extended to the liquor cabinet. Now that all the crap (Vanilla Stoli, crappy gin, Absolute etc.) is out of the way, I can see what I've been missing for a while. It seems I've acquired quite a few bottles of decent single malt, but confused or forgot what some of them are. So the other night we both had a couple glasses of Oban 14, and were very surprised at how damn good it was! So while at the liquor store the other day I checked and realized that it was $70ish a bottle!

So my question is what would you recommend that is very similar in taste to the Oban, but is at a price where I don't mind drinking it more often?

I can't think of anything similar to Oban that is significantly less expensive than this Gonz.

Oban is a "Western Highlands" scotch that I enjoy but I can't recommend anything similar that costs much less. In Connecticut, Oban goes for about $75.00 which is pretty much what you have to spend on decent single malts these days, at least as far as I know.

Now if you're feeling adventurous, you may want to try Laphroaig "Quarter Cask" which is a new expression from Laphroaig. This is a very peaty Islay but one you may want to try. I think it's around $40.00 to $50.00 which is a heck of a deal IMO.

An affordable blend is Gordon Graham's "Black Bottle" which I think you can find in the $40.00 to $50.00 price range. It's an Islay blend that is very, very good IMO. A wonderful anonymous BOTL :whistling: turned me on to this and I like it very much. :thumbs:
