BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude-8.0 earthquake has struck near the South Pacific nation of Tonga. A tsunami warning has been issued.

I'm praying its not as bad as the last one :(

Well I’m hoping the best for them but what I’m confused about is how can they not know if a tsunami was created. I mean, I can go to MSN and see semi detailed satellite pictures of my house. I would have to imagine they have better equipment and satellites so how can they not tell if a 100ft mass of ocean consisting of millions of gallons is moving?

Well I was referring it the article in which the US was watching for the effects of what the earth quake would do.

It's not a 100ft mass of ocean when it's out at sea. I think I remember that a full bore tsunami creates less than a foot of swell in the deep. It's when it comes into the shore that you know you have a problem.

So far it looks like they got lucky down there, lets hope there isn't any after shocks.
