On the roof it's peaceful as can be...

I listened to quite a bit of The Drifters growing up. They were my Dad's favorite band as a teenager.

This was an interesting tidbit I didn't know:

"Pinkney was a World War II veteran and pitched for the New York Blue Sox of the Negro Baseball League in the late 1940s and early '50s."

RIP...

RIP Bill. I saw the Drifters in Chicago a couple of times when i was a kid, they are an American Classic. "Up on the roof" was my favorite song, used to fantasize myself and a girl up on the roof, doing the horizonal mambo.

A great rendition of another Goffin-King classic. Pop imagery well above what else was found in 1962 and one of the songs that shaped what we call rock & roll.

I'm too young to remember these songs, but I've heard them on the Oldie stations and they rock.

RIP Mr. Pinkney.
