One Laptop per Child

Has anyone participated in this yet?? http://laptopgiving.org/en/index.php I would love to get a couple of these for my kids and hope I can scrounge up an extra $800 before the end of the year.

I haven't participated but it looks like a very good program. I read an in depth article about the creator of those laptops when they were 100$. Truly an inspiring idea.

Matt,

I have not participated in this program however 60 Minutes aired a story on it last Sunday. Great Charity to support if one has the means to do so.

There was a thread about this a week or so ago...stop diddling around and use the SEARCH function...geeshh!

<oh - it seems like a very good idea....read up on the actual pc specs - first!>

i believe its a little misguided. here's an mit geek who believes these kids don't need instruction on how to use one. Sure, kids pick up technology fast because they don't have old ideas clogging their reasoning. But you can't just give a kid a computer and expect him or her to understand one.

I hope it works, talk about a global community. That could be the beginning of global peace.

I personally think the hand crank and "salad spinner" dynamo is an awesome idea. Although the synical side of me reflects on some kids not having running water, power or indoor plumbing, but by-golly they're MySpace will be checked on the hour 24/7!

The Wifi range is suppose to be really good too.

Actually, I thought the icons that were chosen to represent ideas are probably pretty universal across all languages.

Anyhoo ... I know Alabama is bassakwards state, but a third-world nation? ... heh heh ... actually, that is pretty damn cool!

The kids will just use it for porn.
