Online DVD rentals...

I am a member of Netflix for over a year now. It's great. Takes one day for the dvd to get to me. I send one in Monday, they get it Tuesday, I have a new one on Wed. If you watch more than a handful of movies a month, it is well worth it. Especially when you factor in not having to go to the store and pick them up and bring them back. I live in Phoenix and there is a warehouse here. That is why I have a fast turn around. Make sure you have one close by.

You set up your waiting cue on line and as the movies come in they send them out. You can have upto 3 movies in your posession. Send them back when you want..

Never tried Blockbuster's online rentals, but had their in store program for about a year. Was around $25.00/month for unlimited rentals, 3 per time, and you could keep them as long as you wanted without a penalty. 6 movies per month was the "break even" point, at their normal $3.99 rental rate.
Enjoyed it, but, frankly, ran out of movies that my wife and I really wanted to see. Towards the end, we were just grabbing movies to cover the monthly fee, as the local Blockbuster's selection became more limited. Seems like our Blockbuster is going to multiple copies of the latest releases and copies of the latest games, and not stocking any older titles. They did away with their entire music videos.
Hopefully, the online deal allows for more of a selection of some older titles.

Well my brother has netflix and he likes it. I had it for a little while, its nice but it just didn’t work for me. I’m always in the mood for a different type of movie depending on the day/week I had and sometimes the movies they sent me, even through they were on my list where just not what I wanted to see at the time. If that makes any since.

liked netflix when i was using it...
then i decided i was spending too much money on cable/internet/movies, and dropped the netflix.
as for blockbuster -
i will NEVER give them another DIME.
one time i went there to find a particular movie so my friend could watch it with me...i forget the movie, but it only rated R..not even NC17 or anything...
i asked the clerk if they had it, and he kind of looked disgusted & said that they didn't and would never have it in...they didn't carry THOSE kind of movies...
i was really pissed off...
then later i read how they EDIT AND CENSOR movies to take out 'the bad stuff'
give me a freaking break!
i am an ADULT and if i want to watch movies that are LEGAL for me to watch, i don't want some religious NUTS tell me that i can't.
i definitely would NOT support a company that thinks it it doing the public a service by editing movies for me.
end of rant.

The wife and I are currently using NetFlix and really like it. One of the cool things that NetFlix offers are DVD's of TV series. For example, my wife and I are currently "re-watching" Star Trek Next Generation from the beginning; a couple of episodes are pretty neat for dinner time viewing.
We like it, really enjoy the convienence, and get 2-day turnarounds on returned movies. So far, so good...easy to recommend.

to be fair I just want to block buster and rented havoc and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t censored considering half the movie was about screwing. Although it makes me wonder a little now…

I used to use NetFlix, but you kind of have to know what you are looking for (at least you did when I was using it). When you browse movies, they are in the same order everytime with movies that most people have already seen and I hated going through that catalog. All of the reccomendations they display are big blockbusters that everyone has seen already. I have the blockbuster in-store plan now and it is kind of expensive. However, I need to be able to browse through a lot of movies with covers such as a store display, which is why I prefer blockbuster. I also live one block away so going to get new movies is fast and I can get more than through netflix. Netflix is good, but you generally need a pretty good idea of what you want to see. Their back catalogue is huge.

all i can find concrete is that they will not stock unrated or NC-17 movies, or 'controversial' movies like "The Last Temptation of Christ".
even if they don't censor movies, i will not give them my money.
they have the right to refuse to carry "immoral" or "blasphemous" movies, and i have the right to not give them my money because of it.
btw - how is Havoc? if it's about screwing, sounds like i'd like it... :laugh:

I used to be a netflix customer. Its great if you like watching a lot of movies (a lot being more than 3-4 per month). I already spend way too much on entertainment, so I dropped it.

Netflix is awesome. I get immediate turn arounds (1 day), the have a huge catalog, they always stock the Widescreen versions of films (as opposed to Blockbusters preference for fullscreen when there's a choice), and they handle problems immediately (usually send out replacements discs right away without waiting for you to return problematic dics - and I've only had 3 problems in the past year).
I manage around 20 or so DVD's on heavy months (comes out to about a buck a disc - can't get any cheaper than that for movies/TV shows)

looks like they used to be a lot more 'moral' than they are now. they found out that if THEY didn't have the movies that people wanted to watch, they would get them from someone else.
they lost a TON of business to Netflix. so they started carrying a wider selection and loosened their morals a bit (they still say on their website that they will NOT carry NC17), and now they offer the video club to compete with Netflix.
so yes, you're right..they NOW carry stuff that they used to REFUSE to carry.
funny how once their morality wasn't was profitable anymore, they dropped most of it...
i am still not going to give them any money...if a company treats me like crap, i am not going to continue to give them business.
as for the censorship - possibly it is an urban myth. i can't prove otherwise.

Well no they did censor there movies at one time but that was still the VHS era, now with dvd and digital rights I don’t think the industry would allow for such a thing. Anyhow to answer your question I enjoyed Havoc quite a bit actually. I would say its one of the best movies I’ve seen since the Jacket. No special affects or Hollywood buzz BS about it, just a good story line.

It does sound like, from the responses, that Netflix is better -- or at least more used.
