I received my invoice today for the next go round of Opus X. These should be live in the next day or so I guess. My rep had told me there were some production issues. If my invoice represents my total shipment - he must have been correct as there is less than half of what I normally get. Hopefully another invoice arrives soon.

Does anyone else have anything information?

Thanks!

KR

Nothing to report on my end yet, but I'll keep you posted.

My local B&M's shipment arrived today. He got 3 boxes, and normally he gets 6. Same story, "production issues", and everyone was going to get 1/2 of what they normally get.

Only 1 per size per day here in SC!

I spoke to a Fuente rep last week who said they weren't even going to have the 3rd shipment since they were so far behind. He said they were just going wait until the Christmas shipment to send out the Opus. He said all the reps begged them to at least send something out, so they are going to have a very small shipment now, and then the Christmas shipment will be out in a month or so. I guess it is better than nothing, but it is not what we were expecting. Hope this helps some.

Are there any online retailers that have them in stock and are selling singles at or near MSRP? I'm looking to pick up about 5-10 or so to sit in the humidor. The one good B&M i got around here it's next to impossible to get them at.

EDIT: Someone posted a link to a site that had a good stock of them right around MSRP, I thought I bookmarked it, but I guess not.

Any word on whether or not they are expecting the same issue with the Anejo's and Hemingway Maddies?

Would not mind if some good brother out there was going to buy some  , my stock is running low :whistling:

just called the only shop in my area that usually gets them and nothing as of yet. Said to call back in 10-14 days. :( If anyone has access to them in they're area, I'd love to pick up a 5er.

Spoke to my rep. He said he called and was told that the wrapper leaf being used is not satisfactory in color and so a limited quantity is being produced at this time. Another shipment is expected in December although he had no idea if it would be a normal shipment or not.

To answer denverdog - I was told this situation would not have any effect on the Anjeo's and Hemingway Maddies.

So I guess if you find them you better grab them.

Guess that means the price will go up also, Great marketing from Fuente.

It might go up again next year but I doubt the purpose is to make a killing on the increase. They make most of their money on regular release lines anyway.

Local shop up here rarely runs out. They still have a few boxes in the humi from last time.

But with the taxes up here they cost $30 a pop. Guess that is why they never run out.

Its just another marketing ploy......doesn't mean I won't buy though ;)

Marketing ploy, eh? In addition to the aforementioned wrapper issues (which I completely believe, Carlito is as OCD as it gets when it comes to that type of thing), I doubt the situation is going to get better any time soon. See below.

Tropical Storm Floods Dominican Republic

Posted: Tuesday, October 30, 2007

By David Savona

Tropical Storm Noel soaked the Dominican Republic yesterday with drenching rains, killing an estimated 20 people and rendering thousands homeless as rivers overflowed throughout the country. The rains were particularly strong between Santo Domingo and Bonao, the latter an area where Dominican wrapper tobacco is grown.

The storm dropped as much as 30 inches of rain on the island of Hispaniola, according to Weather.com. The downpours swamped Chateau de la Fuente, the farm in Bonao where Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. grows wrapper for its Fuente Fuente OpusX cigars.

"Chateau de la Fuente is flooded -- I can't even get there," said Carlos Fuente Jr., president of Tabacalera A. Fuente. There was no tobacco in the ground, or in seedbeds, so no tobacco has been lost, but the complete damage is unable to determine at this time. "Trees are down at the entrance. There is no access to the farm. We could lose the farm. I don't know if we will be able to plant or not."

Fuente lets his Fuente Fuente OpusX cigars age for one year before releasing them, but he is loathe to ship what can't be replaced. "If I can't produce [cigars]," he said, "I can't release."

The storm had been forecast to hit Haiti, but it made an unexpected move and instead made landfall in the Dominican Republic, catching some unaware. The storm had minimal winds but soaking rains, and overflowing rivers. Fuente said the Rio Yuna, which abuts the main portion of the farm, overflowed, turning his tobacco fields into what resembles a lake.

Despite the troubles, Fuente expressed concern for those in the Dominican affected by the storm. "It would be very selfish to think about the future of Chateau de la Fuente with so many people losing their homes," he said.

General Cigar Co., also grows tobacco in the Bonao region, and Cigar Aficionado Online was awaiting comment from the company to see what, if any, impact the storm had on its properties.

As this story was posted, Noel was over central Cuba. It was expected to turn north and then east, where it could strengthen over water.

My B&M told me they also got half the usual amount, they said they are going to start sending them in smaller, but more frequent shipments, instead of the massive, but rare, shipments.
