Outlet Priced Cigars

Last night I drove my wife about an hour west so she could attend a business related dinner. I agreed to bring her as there was an outlet store complex in very close proximity and I needed a new pair of dress shoes. After I drop her off the first store I saw was called "Aficionados", the sign indicated they were a purveyor of Gourmet foods, Wine, and Cigars. Immediately I thought; the hell with shopping, I'm going in to buy a cigar and spend the rest of my free time on the bench outside. I walked straight to the back of the store and recognized the cigar I would smoke right away, a Short Story. That is until I got a look at the price tag, $12.95/per stick! :0 I started to wonder of cbid opened a retail store, however I realized they couldn't have when even the Macanudos were way overpriced. The bottle of Grahams Six Grapes was the most reasonably priced item in the store at $25.99. At least I ended up finding a pair of shoes.

I believe cbid does have a retail store. I'm pretty sure it's Cigars International.

I walk into B&Ms around here from time to time, but I can never really bring myself to buy anything. Last night I went into a store in Santa Monica and noticed some of nice sticks in the walk-in. They had just received a few boxes of Opus and like 10 boxes of Avo 80s. A Power Ranger was $20. :angry2: I talked with the manager a little, hell, he's even from the town I live in. He was telling me how he's not use to meeting locals (he gets mostly tourist traffic in his store). We had a good chat, but he wasn't going to give any discounts off their prices. Ah well.

Moral of the story (if there is one): I do what I've been doing. A shop visit is fine once in awhile, but I always leave 'other' stores a little frustrated...so I just wait for the guy who I enjoy doing business with to receive his stock. I support the B&M who sells at fair prices and helps me to try what I like. Besides the tourists need those $20 Power Rangers way more than I do.

In this area BJs has a few cigars in their liqour stores at moderate prices. As to over priced cigars, well I have a reasonable stash at home so the urge to splurge on a cigar when I am out is usually killed by the thought that I have enough to get me going when I get home. I almost never travel more than 100 miles from home without a little "treat" to ease the drive.
