So I've had 2 Padilla Miami 8&11s. Both were robusto sized, and I'm pretty sure they were both from the same box. About 1.5" in, they both cratered horrendously, and went out. They cratered so badly that I couldn't revive them without cutting about 1" off to get a flat surface to light. Has anyone else had this problem? How about with the other sizes?

I'm on my second box of torpedoes and have had several robustos and never had that problem; sounds strange!

What RH are you keeping them at - all Pepin's corojo cigars really need to be kept at 60 - 63% RH. When I first started purchasing them, I kept them at 70% and had horrendous problems with them including strange burns and funky tastes, but after reading some posts and dropping the humdity in my humidor, I haven't had a problem yet and the Miami 8/11's are my favorite blend.

That's too bad, for such a good and costly smoke. I've never had a problem with burn issues. About the only problem I have is damage from having no cello... Wish Padilla/Tatuaje smokes came with cellophane.

I'm using Viper's 65% beads, and am seeing 62-64% on my digital hygro consistently. The B&M keeps them at about 68-71%, so I wonder if i just got a couple of duds or maybe let them rest longer. The first one had about 10 days rest, the second had about 3 weeks. I'll try them in a different size soon and see if those work better.

I have a rule of thumb that I use with all Pepin creations. They're ready to smoke when the band easily slides of the cigar without damaging the wrapper. It has worked well for me.

I've never had a problem like that before although I have had a few tight Miami 8/11s (especially the corona size). My experience with them is that they ship from Miami with all sorts of different humidity levels from soaked to almost dangerously dry (unlike, say, Fuente, where they're always wet as swimming pool).

Thanks for the tip, Doc! I noticed the connection but never thought of using as an indicator.
