Growing too fast.
I went digging yesterday to see what other Padrons were buried in the humis and came across this Fumas, which I unfortunately don’t remember who it came from. I’m thinking it was a tagalong from Keysersoze when he sent me one of his custom rolls. This is one interesting Padron as it sports a pigtail cap and closed foot, and I do recall asking what it was when received as I had no idea Padron made something like this. There’s a yellow tint to the cellophane as I pull it off the Lonsdale sized cigar, the wrapper is very dark brown and coarse, rugged looking, with one prominent vein circling the length. There’s actually some give to the cigar when squeezed, which is a bit unusual for Padron as they are usually very firm. It has a solid weight in the hand, a very strong sweet tobacco smell when held under the nose, and after punching the pigtail cap I find the draw perfect with taste of sweet tobacco.
Once lit and burning good, I take my first draw and find the smoke is on the mild side as far as strength with only a small amount of spice on the back of the throat; however the body is medium to almost full, feeling heavy on the palate. Exhaling slowly through the mouth and nose, the flavor in the finish is simply amazing. Rich, sweet on the lips, the taste reminds me spot on of buttered raisin toast.
Through the first third and into halfway, the cigar is performing flawlessly with sharp burn that produces a strong, medium gray ash. This is the mildest Padron I’ve ever smoked as far as strength goes with very little spice detectable, however the body is thick and somewhat oily on the palate. Tons of smoke is produced, flowing effortlessly through the perfect draw with rich, delicious flavors and a very lasting finish that is silky smooth. It is pairing perfectly with my coffee.
Into the final third, I had hoped the strength would pick up a bit, however it remained more on the mild side, yet the body continued to be full, feeling thick on the palate. With sharp burn, perfect draw, rich flavors and a lasting finish, this was definitely an excellent cigar to have with morning coffee, especially with the rather mild strength.
