Can I identifiy the year the cigar was sold by the serial number. I have 1/2 a box of Padron Torp anniversary cigars, just trying to get to know them a little better. The serial # on this one is 603905

I don't know of anything other than contacting them directly.

Best of luck and keep us posted if they keep track of the serial numbers.

I've sent them 3 e-mails and gotten no response. I asked Jorge Padron at The Outlaw when we were there for the event and he pretty much evaded the question (it was a busy event).

I would guess that they have some sort of record of the numbers, why else have them? I'm not sure that that translates to the numbers being able to tell the end consumer anything. I can't imagine they'd look up the numbers or anything. I can just imagine the headaches that would cause if the word got out that they would do that.

There has been a slip of paper in just about every box of Padron cigars I've ever owned with the date that they were packed at the factory and who packed and inspected them, though. It's usually between the back of the box and the liner.

I'll check, thanks. Just a box code of 160132. I read that the serial numbers were put on the second band to prevent counterfitting their cigars.

I'm sure they know, but I think it is more so that they can trace any problem sticks back to the person that rolled them.

edit: Send them to me... I'll smoke them and tell you exactly how old they are...

Never seen the slip of paper you are talking about. Do most shops remove this?

I think it is smart not to let anybody know anything about the mumbers, how they work, etc. Better anti-counterfeit tool if the bad guys are clueless.

The serial numbers hold no date codes. The slip of paper that is being talked about is usually between the outer box and the wood inserts that are used to form a lip that the box closes on located on the hinge side of the box.
Depending on how old they are, this paper slip may actually be laying in the bottom of the box under the cigars. Newer boxes, say in the last year or so are either in the bottom of the box or non existent, seems they arent as worried about or just dont have time to place date tags in all the boxes anymore, thats not to say it isnt there they just havent been as consistent as of late with the slips of paper.
If that 160... number was on the bottom outer part of the box written in sharpie, it is your local shops "identity" number with Padron and means very little or nothing to the consumer.
