Ye Old Newbie
I've have had both for a while to comment now...
Xikar is better on smaller ring sizes. When you use it on larger ring sizes (46 & up) it leaves the little bump in the middle of the cigar cut. I do use the 'lay it on the table' method and that helps, but there's not enough distance (gap) to cut a sufficient amount of cap off to get a good draw on the larger ring sizes. When cutting a smaller ring size, you can squeeze the two blades together to hold the cigar in place (without cutting it) to "measure it up" for the correct point to cut at on the hip.
Palio is better on larger ring sizes and torpedoes...no bump, just a nice clean, straight cut. It's especially good at putting the angle cut on torpedoes. I find it a little harder to locate the correct point to cut at for the smaller ring size cigars....that's why I use both when given the option at home.
If I travel and need one cutter...Palio is my choice.
